Hydrometallurgical extraction of antimony from lead refining slags

Tsvetnye Metally, 2021
Today, in order to optimize the production of copper, zinc, and lead, as well as to reduce the circulation of associated metal impurities (such as antimony, tin, bismuth and others) between the processing facilities, an ever greater attention is given to the development and implementation of processing schemes that would enable to extract associated ...

Guniting slag belt in copper-refining furnaces

Refractories, 1960
A gunite mixture with a chrome-magnesite face base can be successfully applied and welded to the chrome-magnesite brickwork of the stag belt in copper-refining furnaces.

Stabilization of refining slags by correction of their phase composition

Steel in Translation, 2016
The stabilization of refining slags in ladle treatment with alumina fluxes is studied. In refining, the slag is stabilized in the presence of alumina fluxes thanks to isomorphic replacement of a calcium ion by alkali-metal ions and to decrease in the dicalcium-silicate content in the melt as a result of its replacement by aluminum-bearing phases.

The Kinetics of Boron Transfer in Slag Refining of Silicon

JOM, 2012
Slag refining is one of the few metallurgical methods for efficient removal of boron from silicon. In industrial slag refining for production of silicon for photovoltaic applications, the relationship between the slag composition and the mass transfer rate of boron from metal to slag is of great importance.

Water vapor solubility in ladle-refining slags

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, 2006
A thermo-gravimetric technique was used to determine the hydrogen solubilities of some Al2O3-CaO-MgO-SiO2 quaternary slags. The focus of the work was to determine the water capacities in slags having lower SiO2 concentrations, which were relevant to industrial practices.

Processing of copper slags on the basis of electro-slag and arc-slag refinings

2014
Results of the experimental melts, confirming the extraction of copper from slag, lump and dusty wastes of copper melting production in application of processes of arc and electroslag melting are given. The percentage of copper extraction, reaching 97.9% and its content in ingot – 93…99.6 %, is shown.

Desulfurization ability of refining slag with medium basicity

International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy, and Materials, 2014
The desulfurization ability of refining slag with relative lower basicity (B) and Al2O3 content (B = 3.5–5.0; 20wt%–25wt% Al2O3) was studied. Firstly, the component activities and sulfide capacity (C S) of the slag were calculated. Then slag-metal equilibrium experiments were carried out to measure the equilibrium sulfur distribution (L

The Capacities and Refining Capabilities of Metallurgical Slags

1988
After reviewing the concepts of the basicity of slags and capacities of slags, the paper describes how the two can be correlated quantitatively using the optical basicity approach. The capacities discussed are those that are relevant under the highly reducing conditions typical of foundry processes, namely the sulfide, phosphate, water, nitride ...

Importance of Modeling in Estimation of Properties of Refining Slags

steel research international, 2010
AbstractStructures and various properties of refining slags can be estimated by the use of classical molecular dynamics simulation. The appropriateness of the estimation depends on the interatomic potentials used in the simulation. If modeling of the interatomic potentials is sound, the parameter values in the potential functions become equivalent to ...

Ladle slag-refining of electric furnace steel

JOM, 1957
Striving to increase steel output per furnace as well as to improve steel quality, one of the leaders of French electric-furnace steelmaking—Ugine— has perfected a ladle slag treatment for rapid desulfurization and deoxidation. The result: tap-to-tap time reduced by more than 50 pct, and output per furnace increased by more than 200 pct.
