SfSNet: Learning Shape, Reflectance and Illuminance of Faces 'in the Wild' [PDF]

open access: yes2018 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2017
We present SfSNet, an end-to-end learning framework for producing an accurate decomposition of an unconstrained human face image into shape, reflectance and illuminance. SfSNet is designed to reflect a physical lambertian rendering model.

A Novel 3D Topography Stitching Algorithm Based on Reflectance and Multimap

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Surface topography is an efficient tool for the understanding of physical phenomena, especially if multiscale roughness analysis is performed. However, the observable scale range in a topography measured with 3D optical profilometers is quite limited ...

Active multilayer mirrors for reflectance tuning at extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavelengths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We propose an active multilayer mirror structure for EUV wavelengths which can be adjusted to compensate for reflectance changes. The multilayer structure tunes the reflectance via an integrated piezoelectric layer that can change its dimension due to an

Colored and paintable bilayer coatings with high solar-infrared reflectance for efficient cooling

open access: yesScience Advances, 2020
A simple, inexpensive, and paintable bilayer coating approach enables both color and efficient cooling. Solar reflective and thermally emissive surfaces offer a sustainable way to cool objects under sunlight.

In Situ Photoacoustic Study of Optical Properties of P-Type (111) Porous Silicon Thin Films

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
Porous silicon (PSi) on p++-type (111) silicon substrate has been fabricated by electronically etching method in hydrofluoric acid (HF) media from 5 to 110 mA/cm2 of anodizing current density.

Nonradiative Energy Transfer in Bi2O3/Tm2O3 Powders under IR Excitation at Liquid Nitrogen Temperature

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
The presented work shows the study of energy transitions in the NIR and visible regions in the system of Bi2O3 and Tm2O3 powders. Mechanisms of upconversion luminescence and NIR luminescence between two Bi3+ and Tm3+ ions at T = 80 K accompanied with ...

Evaluation of Stem Rust Disease in Wheat Fields by Drone Hyperspectral Imaging

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Detecting plant disease severity could help growers and researchers study how the disease impacts cereal crops to make timely decisions. Advanced technology is needed to protect cereals that feed the increasing population using fewer chemicals; this may ...

One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals with Different Termination Layer Thicknesses and Very Narrow Bloch Surface Wave and Guided Wave Based Resonances for Sensing Applications

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
We demonstrate an efficient sensing of both gaseous and aqueous analytes utilizing Bloch surface waves (BSWs) and guided waves (GWs) excited on a truncated one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPhC) composed of six TiO2/SiO2 bilayers with a termination ...

Reflectance Fluctuations in an Absorbing Random Waveguide [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We study the statistics of the reflectance (the ratio of reflected and incident intensities) of an $N$-mode disordered waveguide with weak absorption $\gamma$ per mean free path. Two distinct regimes are identified.

Canopy near-infrared reflectance and terrestrial photosynthesis

open access: yesScience Advances, 2017
Quantifying the near-infrared light reflected by plant canopies improves our ability to estimate global photosynthesis. Global estimates of terrestrial gross primary production (GPP) remain highly uncertain, despite decades of satellite measurements and ...
