Advancing Energy Materials by In Situ Atomic Scale Methods

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 11, March 18, 2025.
Progress in in situ atomic scale methods leads to an improved understanding of new and advanced energy materials, where a local understanding of complex, inhomogeneous systems or interfaces down to the atomic scale and quantum level is required. Topics from photovoltaics, dissipation losses, phase transitions, and chemical energy conversion are ...

Breaking the Durability–Power Trade‐Off: Boron‐Directed Faceted O3 Cathodes for High‐Rate Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Boron‐oxide‐assisted particle engineering stabilizes O3‐type layered cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries by mitigating phase transitions and lattice strain. Acting as flux and structural modifier, boron forms submicron hexagonal platelets with (003) facets and expanded Na‐layer spacing, enabling rapid Na⁺ diffusion and mechanical resilience.

Dry‑Contact Trimming for All‑Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells via Solid‑Solution Homogenization

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Narrow‐bandgap Sn–Pb perovskites are promising bottom absorbers for all‐perovskite tandems but suffer from Sn‐rich surfaces and depth‐dependent lattice/compositional inhomogeneity. Layered‐perovskite‐assisted dry‐contact trimming removes Sn‐rich surface species and reconfigures the Sn–Pb absorber, enabling efficient charge collection, reduced voltage ...

Rational Backbone Planarization for Doping‐Resilient Polymeric Hole Transport Materials Toward Stable and Scalable Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Incorporating divinylbenzene into PTAA‐based copolymers induces backbone planarization and promotes polaron delocalization, leading to enhanced doping resilience and stabilized electronic structure. The resulting hole‐transport material, PDVB14, maintains robust performance under high dopant concentrations and prolonged device operation, offering a ...
