Canopy leaf display effects on absorbed, transmitted, and reflected solar radiation

Remote Sensing of Environment, 1989
Abstract Diurnal measurements of reflected, transmitted, and absorbed solar radiation, over an 80–280° solar azimuth range, were compared for wheat, corn, cotton, and sorghum canopies to study the effects of crop leaf display on light penetration into plant stands.

September Arctic sea ice extent indicated by June reflected solar radiation

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2017
AbstractThe predictability of the minimum sea ice extent (SIE) in the Arctic in September, especially for large anomaly years, is of strong current interest, given the rapid decline in sea ice amount. Our results show that June reflected solar radiation (RSR) is closely related to the underlying sea ice condition in that month and can be used to ...

Measurement of the reflectances for solar radiation of the coats of live animals

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1975
Abstract 1. A substitution method is described for measuring, with a microsolarimeter, reflectances for solar radiation of the coats of comparatively large live animals. The measurements were made in 8 positions round the trunk. From these measurements a mean reflectance, weighted for variations in incident radiation, was calculated.

Deconvolution of Wide-Field-of-View Measurements of Reflected Solar Radiation

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1990
Wide-field-of-view (WFOV) radiometers have been flown as part of the Earth Radiation Budget instrument on the Nimbus 6 and 7 spacecraft and as part of the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) instruments aboard the ERBE spacecraft and also the NOAA 9 and 10 operational spacecraft.

Diffuse reflection and transmission of solar radiation by a finite atmosphere bounded by a reflecting surface

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1996
The problem of diffuse reflection and transmission of solar radiation through a planetary atmosphere bounded from below by a reflecting surface is solved. The solution method based on rewriting the solution of the proposed problem in terms of the well known standard problem solution, where the planetary surface does not reflect.

Remote sensing of solar radiation absorbed and reflected by vegetated land surfaces

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 1992
The problem of remotely sensing the amount of solar radiation absorbed and reflected by vegetated land surfaces was investigated with the aid of one- and three-dimensional radiative transfer models. Desert vegetation was modeled as clumps of leaves randomly distributed on a bright dry soil with a ground cover of generally less than 100%. Surface albedo

Total reflected solar radiation calculated from multi-band sensor data

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1984
Abstract Reflected solar radiation is a significant term in the net radiation equation and is the one most strongly affected by surface conditions. The evaluation of net radiation over a heterogeneous area requires a detailed knowledge of the areal distribution of the reflected solar radiation.

‘Metamaterial’ Enables Structures to Reflect Solar Energy and Radiate Heat

Civil Engineering Magazine, 2017
Researchers have developed a “metamaterial” film of glass and polymer that is both economical to produce and capable of keeping the surface beneath it 10 to 16 degrees centigrade cooler than withou...

Solar Radiation Enhancement in a Lean-to Greenhouse by Use of Reflection

Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1998
Abstract Computer simulations were conducted to investigate the effects of solar radiation enhancement on the cultivated area in a Chinese style lean-to greenhouse. The results showed that, under both direct and diffuse radiation, a more uniform distribution and increased amount of reflected radiation on the cultivated area could be obtained by ...
