Large contribution of supercooled liquid clouds to the solar radiation budget of the Southern Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Southern Ocean is a critical region for global climate, yet large cloud and solar radiation biases over the Southern Ocean are a long-standing problem in climate models and are poorly understood, leading to biases in simulated sea surface ...

A Reflective, Processed-Kaolin Particle Film Affects Fruit Temperature, Radiation Reflection, and Solar Injury in Apple [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Horticultural Science, 2002
Particle film technology is a new tool for tree fruit production systems. Trials were performed in Santiago, Chile, and Washington and West Virginia to evaluate the effect of particle film treatments on apple [Malus sylvestris (L.) Mill var domestica (Borkh.) Mansf.] fruit temperature and the incidence of solar injury.

Intrabandgap States Engineering in Functionalized Nanodiamond to Generate Solvated Electrons for Photocatalysis Under Solar Illumination

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The negative electron affinity of diamond allows to emit highly reductive electrons. By introducing intra‐bandgap states and an optimized electron transfer mechanism by surface functionalization with Ru(bpy)3, the formation of solvated electrons is achieved upon solar irradiation.

Thermal influence caused by the vertical distribution of reflected solar radiation and re‐radiation on the building in various climate areas and its solar shading method

open access: yesJapan Architectural Review, 2021
Most houses in Japan have the floor‐length windows to take the natural light into the room. Reflected solar radiation and Re‐radiation from the ground (Reflection) enter through the window and increase the cooling load, therefore reducing reflection to ...

Solar Energy Delivering Greenhouse with an Integrated NIR filter [PDF]

open access: yes
The scope of this investigation is the design and development of a new type of greenhouse with an integrated filter for rejecting near infrared radiation (NIR) and a solar energy delivery system. Cooled greenhouses are an important issue to cope with the

Photothermal Macroporous Lignin Cryogels for Off‐Grid, Continuous Atmospheric Water Collection via Interlayer Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photothermal, macroporous lignin‐based cryogels are engineered to convert sunlight into low‐grade heat. Integrated as stacked beds in a drum‐type device, a thin copper interlayer transfers waste heat between beds, enabling interlayer heat recovery and continuous solar cycling.

Silver Ion‐Mediated [hk1]‐Oriented Sb2Se3 Crystal Growth for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ag+‐mediated hydrothermal crystal engineering promotes preferential [hk1]‐oriented growth of Sb2Se3 via an ultrathin MoOx interlayer, improving crystallinity and suppressing non‐radiative recombination. The optimized Ag+ treatment photocathode delivers 24.7 mA cm−2 at 0 VRHE and improved stability, revealing an ion‐modulated route to high‐performance ...
