We proposed a novel method suppressing the OBI noise in RSOA based WDM/SCM-PON. This is to use the SOA operated in gain saturation range, which acts as high pass filter. CNR increased up to 15 dB compared with that without using a SOA.

Time Delay and Gain Reduction in Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier
2018 11th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks & Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP), 2018Amplification of picosecond optical pulses by reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is theoretically investigated using a high-precision time-domain model. It is demonstrated that, compared to conventional SOA in similar conditions, pulses amplified by RSOA suffer from additional gain reduction of a few dB due to RSOA’s rear-facet ...

Reflective semiconductor optical amplifier modulator dynamic model
Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices, 2014, 2014A dynamic model of a bulk reflective SOA is described. The model includes spontaneous emission and uses full bandstructure based calculations of the active material gain coefficients. The model is used to simulate the use of an RSOA to modulate an input CW lightwave at multi Gb/s data rates using bias current modulation.

Periodic filaments in reflective broad area semiconductor optical amplifiers
Applied Physics Letters, 1992Filaments with a regular spacing of the order of 25 μm are experimentally observed in double-pass broad area GaAlAs amplifiers for near normal injection angle. Their formation is attributed to nonlinear interaction between counterpropagating beams and Talbot self-imaging.

Ultrabroadband reflective semiconductor optical amplifier using superimposed quantum dots
Journal of Nanophotonics, 2021An approach has been suggested for the simulation of a quantum dot reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) with wideband optical gain. This model is implemented by superimposing different quantum dot groups with various radii using solution process nanotechnology, which is both practical and frugal.

Analytical expression for the modulation bandwidth of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier
12th International Conference on Fiber Optics and Photonics, 2014An analytical formula for the bandwidth of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) operated by directly modulating its injection current is derived. The formula allows gaining insight into the dependence of the RSOA modulation bandwidth on the main semiconductor parameters.

Reduced Model for the Nonlinear Response of Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2013Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) became a key-technology for the implementation of next generation local area passive optical networks (PONs). In this letter, we present a semi-analytic study of their nonlinear dynamics, based on the derivation of a reduced model that gives the input-output RSOA transmission function as the solution ...

Modulation Characteristics of Reflective Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference, 2017G-I relation linear range and modulation bandwidth of R-QDSOA are investigated. The results showed that R-QDSOA had higher G-I relation linear range and the modulation bandwidth easily reached above 17GHz, which could be further improved by optimizing parameters.

A fiber-optical cable television system using a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier
Laser Physics, 2013This investigation demonstrates a fiber-optical cable television system using a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) for uplink transmission. The downstream signal is cable television and the upstream signal is generated by remodulating the downstream signal via an RSOA with a radio-frequency signal.

Efficient dynamic modeling of reflective semiconductor optical amplifier
2013RSOA is considered a strong candidate to play an important role in realizing the next generation WDM PON, based on the wavelength reuse concept. Therefore, accurate and efficient modeling of RSOA is of significant importance. We present a time-domain wideband model for simulation of spatial and temporal distribution of photons and carriers in a bulk ...
