Analytical expression for the modulation bandwidth of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier

open access: yes12th International Conference on Fiber Optics and Photonics, 2014
An analytical formula for the bandwidth of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) operated by directly modulating its injection current is derived. The formula allows gaining insight into the dependence of the RSOA modulation bandwidth on the main semiconductor parameters.

Model simulations of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2006
A reflective semiconductor optical amplifier is modeled using a rate equation for the inversion and an expression for the outgoing field in terms of the incoming field and the instantaneous inversion, for both the cases of linear and nonlinear gain, while assuming modulation speeds well below the round-trip frequency.

Time Delay and Gain Reduction in Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

open access: yes2018 11th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks & Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP), 2018
Amplification of picosecond optical pulses by reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is theoretically investigated using a high-precision time-domain model. It is demonstrated that, compared to conventional SOA in similar conditions, pulses amplified by RSOA suffer from additional gain reduction of a few dB due to RSOA’s rear-facet ...

A reflective semiconductor optical amplifier based all-optical header separator

Optoelectronics Letters, 2010
An all-optical header extraction scheme based on the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is presented, which can be used to process variable-length and bit-rate transparent packets. Through selecting the appropriate carrier-lifetime of the RSOA, the payload pulses obtain smaller gains than header pulses and are considered to be compressed.
