Modeling reflective bistability in vertical-cavity semiconductor optical amplifiers [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 2005
The characteristics of optical bistability in a vertical cavity semiconductor optical amplifier (VCSOA) operated in reflection are reported. The dependences of the optical bistability in VCSOAs on the initial phase detuning and on the applied bias current are analyzed.

Efficient Dynamic Modeling of the Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2013
Reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is considered a strong candidate to play an important role in realizing the next generation wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network, based on the wavelength reuse concept. Therefore, an accurate and efficient modeling of RSOA is of significant importance.

Experimental analysis of four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier using frequency resolved optical gating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Four-wave mixing was performed in a multi-quantum well semiconductor optical amplifier in order to demultiplex 2 ps pulses from 80 GHz to 10 GHz. The demultiplexed pulses were measured using frequency resolved optical gating.

All-optical Regenerator Using Semi-reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of Korea, 2006
We have proposed and theoretically verified an optical regenerator using a single semi-reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (SR-SOA). To explain the operation characteristics and the operation condition of the proposed opticalregenerator, the simplified gain model for the SR-SOA is introduced and confirmed by comparing the result of the SOA ...
