Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers in passive optical networks

2009 14th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference, 2009
Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (RSOAs) offer a cost effective wavelength agnostic transmitter for applications within wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (WDM PONs) obviating the need for tuneable or fixed laser sources at customer premises.

Novel optical regenerator using semi-reflective semiconductor optical amplifier

Integrated Photonics Research and Applications/Nanophotonics for Information Systems, 2005
We propose and theoretically verify optical regenerator using single semi-reflective semiconductor optical amplifier. Using simplified gain model, we explaine operational principle of proposed regenerator. Simulaton result shows proposed scheme acts as 2R regenerator.

Ultrabroadband reflective semiconductor optical amplifier using superimposed quantum dots

Journal of Nanophotonics, 2021
An approach has been suggested for the simulation of a quantum dot reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) with wideband optical gain. This model is implemented by superimposing different quantum dot groups with various radii using solution process nanotechnology, which is both practical and frugal.

Optical beat interference suppression using semiconductor optical amplifier in reflective semiconductor optical amplifier based WDM/SCM-passive optical network

2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006
We proposed a novel method suppressing the OBI noise in RSOA based WDM/SCM-PON. This is to use the SOA operated in gain saturation range, which acts as high pass filter. CNR increased up to 15 dB compared with that without using a SOA.

Model simulations of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
A reflective semiconductor optical amplifier is modeled using a rate equation for the inversion and an expression for the outgoing field in terms of the incoming field and the instantaneous inversion, for both the cases of linear and nonlinear gain, while assuming modulation speeds well below the round-trip frequency.

Multiwavelength conversion based on reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
In this contribution the routing capabilities of time/wavelength codes in Optical Code Division Multiple access are observed by means of the study of two devices for achieving the wavelength part code conversion. Multi-wavelength conversion will be achieved by using a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier and a Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier. The

A reflective semiconductor optical amplifier based all-optical header separator

Optoelectronics Letters, 2010
An all-optical header extraction scheme based on the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) is presented, which can be used to process variable-length and bit-rate transparent packets. Through selecting the appropriate carrier-lifetime of the RSOA, the payload pulses obtain smaller gains than header pulses and are considered to be compressed.

Reflective semiconductor optical amplifier modulator dynamic model

Numerical Simulation of Optoelectronic Devices, 2014, 2014
A dynamic model of a bulk reflective SOA is described. The model includes spontaneous emission and uses full bandstructure based calculations of the active material gain coefficients. The model is used to simulate the use of an RSOA to modulate an input CW lightwave at multi Gb/s data rates using bias current modulation.

Efficient Dynamic Wideband Model for Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
A computationally efficient, time-domain model for simulation of spatial-temporal distribution of photons and carriers in a bulk RSOA is presented. Saturation, noise, chirp and signal broadening are successfully predicted for NRZ and QPSK signals.
