Reflections on Solar Variability
Solar Physics, 1981The Sun is a variable star in many respects: there are secular varitions related to the general solar evolution, and — as discovered in recent years — there are many short period variations of which the 5 min and 160 min pulsations are the most important ones.

Abstract This communication presents an investigation of a three zone solar pond with a diffusely reflecting bottom. The dynamic performance and its optimization as a large scale solar energy collection and long term storage system have been discussed. Numerical computations, corresponding to the data of solar radiation and ambient air temperature of

Solar Reflectance of Glazed Tiles
Advances in Science and Technology, 2014Exterior wall tiles with high solar reflectance are effective in mitigating heat-island phenomenon. Such walls have also the potential to decrease the warming up of building interiors in mid-summer. For the purpose of increasing the solar reflectance of wall tiles, several kinds of glazes were prepared to measure their visible and infra-red spectral ...

Solar reflectance integrating sphere
Solar Energy, 1960Abstract An inexpensive integrating sphere for the direct determination of the reflectance of materials irradiated by solar energy transmitted through the atmosphere of the earth is described. Reflectance and transmittance measurements of various metals, cloths, and filters are reported and are compared to spectral and total measurements made with ...

UV solar reflecting coronagraph
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1990A dual‐channel reflecting coronagraph is proposed that would provide observations of Lα corona and chromosphere, upper transition‐region phenomena in CIV, and also helioseismology observations in the continuum around 166 nm. Each channel would use a 104×104‐UV‐sensitive CCD array.

Reflections on the topic of solar fuels
Energy Environ. Sci., 2014The amount of energy and chemicals extracted to date from sunlight by the solar fuels community is minute in comparison with the corresponding amounts being regularly extracted from non-renewable sources. This brief appraisal discusses why.

Wave reflections in the solar atmosphere
Solar Physics, 1979The small phase-lag between velocities observed at different chromospheric levels is interpreted as being due to acoustic waves reflected by the very hot atmospheric layers of the chromosphere-corona transition zone. We consider first an isothermal slab, then a realistic solar atmospheric model and calculate weighting functions for velocities in Ca ii ...

Infrared Reflecting Solar Cells
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace, 1965The equilibrium temperature of a solar cell panel in space is a function of the ratio of solar absorptance to infrared emittance of the surface. This paper describes a method for reducing solar absorptance by constructing the solar cell so that it will be a reflector in the infrared part of the solar spectrum.

Solar concentrators using total internal reflection
Applied Optics, 1983A study is presented of solar concentrators based on total internal reflections. The concentrators are placed over photovoltaic cells. Experimental data obtained with different encapsulating materials and dependence on geometrical and physical variables are given.
