Challenges and Approaches for Sensor Reflective Solar Calibration

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
Significant advances have been made in recent years by many countries and agencies in Earth observations via remote sensing instruments operated onboard LEO and GEO satellites. For passive optical sensors, reflective solar (RS) calibration remains extremely challenging in terms of calibration traceability, accuracy, stability, and consistency.

Solar concentrators using total internal reflection

Applied Optics, 1983
A study is presented of solar concentrators based on total internal reflections. The concentrators are placed over photovoltaic cells. Experimental data obtained with different encapsulating materials and dependence on geometrical and physical variables are given.

Interpretation of Solar Reflection Data

2017
This part of the spectrum is the most intensively studied region for remote sensing of the Earth. Solar reflected energy reaching the sensor depends upon a number of factors, viz. Sun attitude, atmospheric-meteorological conditions, topography, slope and aspect, sensor look angle and target reflectance.

Solar Heat Reflecting Coatings

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1969
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Tests conducted at the U. S. Army Coating and Chemical Laboratory, Aberdeen Proving Ground, indicate that some pigments are better than others in reducing heat build-up on painted surfaces from solar radiation. Special tests were also conducted to check the application of paint on automobile surfaces, using 12 ...

Reflections on the topic of solar fuels

Energy Environ. Sci., 2014
The amount of energy and chemicals extracted to date from sunlight by the solar fuels community is minute in comparison with the corresponding amounts being regularly extracted from non-renewable sources. This brief appraisal discusses why.

Reflection controlling metasurfaces for solar cell applications

Metamaterials XII, 2019
In this study, we propose a new approach for controlling reflection of light by using highly efficient and polarization insensitive all-dielectric metasurfaces. Moreover, we applied our model on the planar silicon solar cell to manage light trapping.

Infrared Reflecting Solar Cells

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace, 1965
The equilibrium temperature of a solar cell panel in space is a function of the ratio of solar absorptance to infrared emittance of the surface. This paper describes a method for reducing solar absorptance by constructing the solar cell so that it will be a reflector in the infrared part of the solar spectrum.
