Iatrogenic damage to the mandibular nerves as assessed by the masseter inhibitory reflex [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Headache and Pain, 2011
Iatrogenic injury of the inferior alveolar or lingual nerves frequently leads to legal actions for damage and compensation for personal suffering. The masseter inhibitory reflex (MIR) is the most used neurophysiological tool for the functional assessment of the trigeminal mandibular division.

The Value of Sacral Reflex and Sympathetic Skin Reflex in the Diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy P-Type

open access: yesParkinson's Disease, 2021
Objectives. To observe the characteristics of sacral reflex and sympathetic skin reflex in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and multiple system atrophy P-type (MSA-P) and to analyze their value as a differential diagnostic method. Methods. The data

Using the Flexor Reflex in a Chronic Stroke Patient for Gait Improvement: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2021
The flexor reflex or withdrawal reflex can be elicited by electrical stimulation of the sole of the foot, which serves as a reflex to protect the stimulated limb against tissue damage and consists of flexion movements in the hip, knee, and ankle joint ...

Comparative studies of the effects of some antimuscarinic agents on gastric damage and pupillary reflex in the rat [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1984
The effects of some antimuscarinic compounds on oxotremorine‐induced gastric damage, the pupil size and the pupillary light reflex have been studied in the rat. Unlike atropine, propantheline and methylscopolamine, pirenzepine is effective in preventing gastric erosions at doses much lower than those that affect pupillary reflex.

Neurophysiological Changes in Post Stroke Spasticity Patients

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Background: A stroke is a serious life-threatening medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is disrupted. Spasticity is a state, in which, there is an increase in muscle tone or stiffness, which might be associated with ...

Does the Integration of Primary Refl ex Schemas According to Masgutova’s Neurosensorimotor Refl ex Integration Improve Functioning and Quality of Life Among Children with Spectrum of Foetal Alcohol Disorders? [PDF]

open access: yesRehabilitacja Medyczna, 2023
Introduction: Foetal Alcohol Disorder Spectrum (FASD) is an incurable, non-genetic disorder that can occur in children whose mothers consumed alcohol during pregnancy. Patients with FASD are characterised by extensive damage to the central nervous system,

Shared and distinct voxel-based lesion-symptom mappings for spasticity and impaired movement in the hemiparetic upper limb

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Hemiparesis and spasticity are common co-occurring manifestations of hemispheric stroke. The relationship between impaired precision and force in voluntary movement (hemiparesis) and the increment in muscle tone that stems from dysregulated activity of ...

Inter-rater reliability of categorical versus continuous scoring of fish vitality: Does it affect the utility of the reflex action mortality predictor (RAMP) approach? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Scoring reflex responsiveness and injury of aquatic organisms has gained popularity as predictors of discard survival. Given this method relies upon the individual interpretation of scoring criteria, an evaluation of its robustness is done here to test ...

Carotid brainstem reflex myoclonus after hypoxic brain damage [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2000
A patient comatose after acute anoxia developed bilaterally synchronous, periodic myoclonic jerks most prominently in the bilateral upper limbs. Although the myoclonus seemed to occur spontaneously, electrophysiological studies showed that the myoclonic jerks correlated in timing and size with arterial pulses, and was suppressed by massage over the ...
