Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Integrating climate change criteria in reforestation projects using a hybrid decision-support system

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2015
The selection of appropriate species in a reforestation project has always been a complex decision-making problem in which, due mostly to government policies and other stakeholders, not only economic criteria but also other environmental issues interact.

Company Location, Business Environment and Digital Maturity as Drivers of Environmental Innovation in Business

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Environmental protection has emerged as a global priority in the contemporary context. As pivotal actors in the transition towards sustainable development, companies play a crucial role through the adoption of environmental innovations. This study investigates how organisational characteristics—specifically geographical location, business ...

Back to Nature or Technology to the Rescue? Climate Managers' Preferences for Investment in Carbon Dioxide Removal

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Firms are increasingly looking into carbon dioxide removal (CDR), a set of options to take past emissions of greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere. Often two basic categories of CDR are distinguished: nature‐based solutions, such as planting trees or restoring wetlands, and technology‐based solutions, such as various forms of carbon capture ...

Deer and reforestation in the Pacific Northwest [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Deer and reforestation interact mainly during regeneration after wildfire or logging. In interior forests, browsing by mule deer often damages conifer seedlings planted on winter or transitional ranges.

Emission Reduction Targets Between Strategy and Executive Compensation: Evidence on Symbolic and Substantive Adoption From German Listed Firms

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Firms increasingly commit to climate targets yet doubts remain about whether such pledges translate into substantive corporate governance or remain symbolic. The study examines how emission reduction targets (ERTs) in sustainability strategies are reflected in compensation among German listed firms.

Achieving Carbon Neutrality: Strategic Pathways to Sustainability and Net Zero in Manufacturing Supply Chains

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Reaching global net‐zero targets has become an urgent priority as businesses and nations face increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving carbon neutrality in manufacturing supply chains requires comprehensive systemic changes across business processes.

Aboveground Carbon Estimation in a Mangrove Ecosystem Using UAV-Based Remote Sensing and Machine Learning

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Mangroves are an important part of coastal blue carbon ecosystems, efficiently absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). Accurate quantification of mangrove carbon stocks aids climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.

A Study of High‐Emission Industries: How Policy, Strategy, and Technology Shape Corporate Social Responsibility Toward Carbon Neutrality

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The extant carbon neutrality (CN) literature largely offers macro‐ or meso‐level analyses, providing limited insights into implementation experiences that could inform granular policymaking and industry strategies. To address this gap, we examine the lived CN experiences of firms in the transportation, energy, manufacturing, and construction ...
