Backward-wave regime and negative refraction in chiral composites

open access: yes, 2005
Possibilities to realize a negative refraction in chiral composites in in dual-phase mixtures of chiral and dipole particles is studied. It is shown that because of strong resonant interaction between chiral particles (helixes) and dipoles, there is a ...

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Refraction of Electromagnetic Energy for Wave Packets Incident on a Negative Index Medium is Always Negative

open access: yes, 2003
We analyze refraction of electromagnetic wave packets on passing from an isotropic positive to an isotropic negative refractive index medium. We definitively show that in all cases the energy is always refracted negatively.

Quantum Emitters in Hexagonal Boron Nitride: Principles, Engineering and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride have emerged as a promising candidate for quantum information science. This review examines the fundamentals of these quantum emitters, including their level structures, defect engineering, and their possible chemical structures.

ON THE PROPAGATION OF RADIO EMISSION IN THE CROWN OF THE QUIET SUN WITH MAGNETIC FIELD

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2013
There are searching for factors that influence on the brightness temperature distribution of the quiet Sun at decameter radio waves which may explain the ellipsoidal shape and other features in the radio brightness profile.

Law of refraction for generalised confocal lenslet arrays

open access: yes, 2013
We derive the law of generalised refraction for generalised confocal lenslet arrays, which are arrays of misaligned telescopes. We have implemented this law of refraction in TIM, a custom open-source ray tracer.Comment: 4 pages, 3 ...

Lipid Nanoparticles for the Delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 Machinery to Enable Site‐Specific Integration of CFTR and Mutation‐Agnostic Disease Rescue

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are optimized to co‐deliver Cas9‐encoding messenger RNA (mRNA), a single guide RNA (sgRNA) targeting the endogenous cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, and homologous linear double‐stranded donor DNA (ldsDNA) templates encoding CFTR.

An exact Riemann solver based solution for regular shock refraction

open access: yes, 2009
We study the classical problem of planar shock refraction at an oblique density discontinuity, separating two gases at rest. When the shock impinges on the density discontinuity, it refracts and in the hydrodynamical case 3 signals arise.

Soft and Stiff 3D Microstructures by Step‐Growth Photopolymerization Using a Single Photoresin and Multi‐Photon Laser Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An additive and initiator‐free photoresin based on a prepolymer decorated with photoreactive step‐growth units as crosslinkers allows for the fabrication of 3D microstructures with strongly disparate mechanical properties ranging from stiff to soft. Abstract Manufacturing three‐dimensional (3D) microstructures with multi‐material properties via two ...

Conical diffraction and the dispersion surface of hyperbolic metamaterials

open access: yes, 2014
Hyperbolic metamaterials are materials in which at least one principal dielectric constant is negative. We describe the refractive index surface, and the resulting refraction effects, for a biaxial hyperbolic metamaterial, with principal dielectric ...
