Efficient and Scalable Radiative Cooling for Photovoltaics Using Solution‐Processable and Solar‐Transparent Mesoporous Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graded refractive index (GRI) structures are prepared from the layer‐by‐layer spray coating of the mesoporous SiO2 nanoparticles, showing high solar transparency and thermal emissivity. Under outdoor conditions, after 50 days, the GRI‐coated photovoltaics show on average 6.65 ± 1.48 °C lower than that of the non‐coated references, maintaining 80.9 ± 8 ...

Wavelength dependence of the refractive index of human colorectal tissues: comparison between healthy mucosa and cancer

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering, 2016
Biological tissues have individual optical properties that may be used as an identity card. The refractive index in particular, which can be measured directly, is very significant for the improvement or development of optical technologies in clinical ...

Retroreflector Approximation of a Generalized Eaton Lens

open access: yes, 2012
We extended a previous study of the Eaton lens at specific refraction angles to the Eaton lens at any refraction angle. The refractive index of the Eaton lens is complicated and has not analytical form except at a few specific angles. We derived a more

In‐Situ Growth of 2D MOFs as a Molecular Sieving Layer on SnS2 Nanoflakes for Realizing Ultraselective H2S Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
The ultraselective H2S detection of the ZIF‐L/SnS2 heterostructure is demonstrated. The introduction of 2‐dimensional (2D) breathable ZIF‐L results in a substantial increase in H2S selectivity attributable to the molecular sieving effect, which impedes the permeation of gases with large kinetic diameters and high polarity.

Gradient-index Solar Sail and its Optimal Orbital Control

open access: yes, 2019
Solar sails with the capability of generating a tangential radiation pressure at the sun-pointing attitude, such as refractive sails can provide more efficient methods for attitude and orbital control of sailcraft.

Thermally Induced Gelling Systems Based on Patchy Polymeric Micelles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
A novel strategy to design thermally induced gelling systems with tunable material properties is reported. Polymeric mixed‐shell micelles displaying multiple thermosensitive patchy domains formed hydrogels by assembling into well‐entangled worm‐like network structures upon heating to body temperature. The patchy micelle design significantly affects the

Ultrasensitive Magnetic Field Sensing Based on Refractive-Index-Matched Coupling

open access: yesSensors, 2017
An ultrasensitive magnetic field sensor is proposed and investigated experimentally. The no-core fiber is fusion-spliced between two pieces of single-mode fibers and then immersed in magnetic fluid with an appropriate value of refractive index. Under the

Method for Assessing the Fidelity of Optical Diffraction Tomography Reconstruction Methods

open access: yes, 2019
We use a spatial light modulator in a diffraction tomographic system to assess the accuracy of different refractive index reconstruction algorithms. Optical phase conjugation principles through complex media, allows us to quantify the error for different
