Refractive index of GaN

The refractive index of GaN and its temperature dependence have been measured using plane-parallel platelets with E ⊥ c. In this direction at 300 K the index is 2.67 at 3.38 eV, 2.33 at 1.0 eV, and has an extrapolated value of 2.29 ± 0.005 at 0 eV. The difference in the refractive indices for E ⊥ c and E ‖ c is 1.5 ± 0.2% at 5000 A. A Debye temperature

Summary.1. As a rule the refractive index for dark adapted retinae of cows was 1.358.2. In a material of 321 cases the light adapted retina's index was 1.3610 ± 0.0008.3. The experiments carried out support the supposition expressed by Kühne Aand Ewald that visual purple exudes water when it is bleached.

The refractive index of silicon was measured at room temperature over the range 1.1-2.0 micro by autocollimation in an ~12 degrees wedge. The image was observed by sweeping it across a slit in front of a lead sulfide cell whose output was displayed vertically on an oscilloscope while the sweep frequency was displayed horizontally.
