The Refractometry of Lenses [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1916
IT may be of value to opticians and others to know of a method by which the refractive indices of irregular or unpolished pieces of glass, lenses, or prisms, can be found fairly accurately—i.e. to 1 in the fourth decimal place.

Wafer‐Scale Deterministic Fabrication of Axis‐Ratio–Engineered Silicon Nanoparticles for On‐Resonance Electric–Magnetic Dipole Interference

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 32, 8 June 2026.
Wafer‐scale top‐down fabrication yields silicon nanoparticles with exceptional uniformity (CV 1.7%–2.4%), enabling deterministic axis‐ratio tuning. At AR ≈$\approx$ 2.1, electric–magnetic dipoles overlap on‐resonance, producing near‐Kerker forward scattering (F/B ≈$\approx$ 12.5).

Between Bitterness and Sweetness: How Decaffeination and Sweeteners Shape the Sensory Experience of Espresso Coffee

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The increasing demand for healthier beverages has encouraged the reduction of caffeine and sugar in coffee‐based products. This study evaluated the sensory descriptive profile and consumer acceptance of traditional and decaffeinated espresso coffees sweetened with sucrose, sucralose, and stevia with different rebaudioside A concentrations. The

Risk Factors for and Prevalence of Failure of Passive Transfer of Immunity in Calves on Dairy Farms in Türkiye

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
The prevalence of FPTI in this study was similar to reports internationally. This research shows that there were both modifiable and non‐modifiable significant risk factors for FPTI in Türkiye dairy herds, specifically colostrum feeding method and season of birth and herd size, dam parity and calf breed.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 4, Page 727-736, April 2026.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Amphiphilic Polymer Model Networks Synthesized by Different Hetero‐Complementary Coupling Reactions of Tetra‐PEG and Tetra‐PCL Stars

open access: yesMacromolecular Chemistry and Physics, Volume 227, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Amphiphilic co‐networks (ACN) synthesized by different hetero‐complementary reactions of hydrophilic tetra‐PEG and hydrophobic tetra‐PCL stars are compared. For the ACNs, equilibrium volume swelling degrees (Qv) are determined. Information about the ACNs micro structure (connectivity distribution) is obtained from proton low‐resolution multiple‐quantum

Viscoelastic Behaviors of Hyaluronic Derivatives as a Function of pH, Salt, and Temperature

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 64, Issue 6, Page 1505-1517, 15 March 2026.
Viscoelastic properties of hyaluronic acid grafted with polyether side‐chains (HA‐PEPO) can be controlled in aqueous media over more than three decades of amplitude with the possibility to get liquid or gel states, regardless of temperature, as well as sol/gel transitions induced by cooling or heating by the interplay between hydrogen bonds ...
