Leaching kinetics of Cr(VI) phases in the matrices of calcium aluminate cement-bonded refractory castables: Role of micro-silica

, 2020
The Al2O3-CaO-Cr2O3 systems are widely regarded as highly corrosion-resistant refractory castables, but leading a Cr(VI) problem after service. In the present paper, different contents (0–13.33 wt%) of MS (micro-silica) were added to the castables ...

Phase composition of bauxite-based refractory castables

Ceramics International, 2011
Abstract The bauxite-based refractory castables are composed of 90 wt.% well-graded (coarse, medium, and fine) bauxite aggregate, 10 wt.% binding matrix and adequate amount of distilled water. The binder mixture was calcium aluminate cement (CAC) containing 80% alumina and magnesium-aluminate spinel (MA-spinel) or mullite either preformed or obtained

Waste rice husk ash derived sol: A potential binder in high alumina refractory castables as a replacement of hydraulic binder

, 2020
This work provides a new source of binder system, i.e., waste rice husk ash (RHA) derived sol for unshaped refractories. A facile (alkali extraction) route is used to synthesize the sol from the waste RHA.

Thermal shock resistance properties of refractory castables bonded with a CaO-free binder

, 2020
The potential of hydratable magnesium carboxylate compounds (HMC) combined with MgO powder as a binder of castables was evaluated. The green mechanical and thermal shock resistance properties of HMC-bonded castables (HMCC) and calcium aluminate cement ...

Effect of Hydrothermal Environments on the Erosion of Castable Refractories

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1977
Hydrothermal environments are expected to adversely affect the erosive resistance of castable refractories intended for use in high wear areas of coal gasification plants. The erosive wear behavior of two grades of refractories proposed for such use was studied at room temperature after exposure of the refractories to high-pressure steam.

Microstructural and mechanical investigation of high alumina refractory castables containing nano-titania

Ceramics International, 2019
In this study, mechanical and structural properties of two high alumina refractory castables, i.e. without nano-titania and with 0.4 wt% TiO2, are investigated.

Enhanced slag resistance of magnesia refractory castables with addition of BaSO4

, 2020
The present study aims to clarify the influence of BaSO4 on composition, microstructural evolution and properties of magnesia refractory castables. Castables with different BaSO4 contents were prepared using calcined magnesia, microsilica, and BaSO4 as ...

Damage evaluation of two alumina refractory castables

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2009
Abstract The accumulation of damage by thermal treatment and its development under uniaxial loading–unloading cycles performed at room temperature has been evaluated for two alumina based refractory castables; an ultra low cement content bauxite material (Bau-ULCC) and a low cement content andalusite material (And-LCC).

Improvements of properties of alumina-silica refractory castables by alumina-coated aluminum powders

, 2020
Castables have been widely used in repairing furnace linings owing to their numerous verified benefits. Al2O3 coated Al powders (ACAPs) were prepared to prevent their hydration during castable preparing.

Selection of binders for in situ spinel refractory castables

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2009
Abstract The expansive behavior of alumina–magnesia refractory castables is usually associated with in situ spinel formation. Nevertheless, when bonded with calcium aluminate cement (CAC), this class of materials can present additional expansion reactions due to CA 2 and CA 6 formation.
