Nano-bonded refractory castables

Ceramics International, 2013
Abstract Calcium aluminate cement (CAC) contents higher than 3 wt% in refractory castables can have some drawbacks in the various processing steps (mainly drying) and also in their refractoriness when in contact with SiO 2 . The use of colloidal silica as an alternative binder has been studied by many researchers in recent years and recently reports ...

Castable Refractories Based on Zircon

Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society, 1971
Castables based on zircon sand were made and their physical properties were determined after various heat treatments. It was found that zircon sand can be used as an aggregate material in castables with good results.

Thermal Conductivity of Refractory Castables

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1963
Thermal conductivity measurements were made on various refractory castabales of both dense fireclay and high‐alumina types as well as on several insulating castables. These tests, covering mean specimen temperatures of 200° to 2000°F, indicated how the thermal conductivity of a castable material varies with thermal history.

Calcium Aluminate Cement and Refractory Castable

Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society, 1993
Monocalcium aluminate and calcium dialuminate were prepared by heating different mixes of CaO and Al2O3, at 1400° and 1600°C respectively, evidence of which was found by X-ray diffraction study. Castables were made from the mixes of CA and CA2 in specific proportions, hydrated by keeping immersed in water and subsequently tested for strength.Hydrated ...

Binders for Refractory Castables: An Overview

Interceram - International Ceramic Review, 2020
Abstract: A binder for refractory castables is a bonding material that bonds a loose powdery mix, retains its shape after casting and allows the cast shape to set and harden for handling and further processing. A binder also improves sintering, as the castables are not compacted during shaping, causing poor densification and strength.

Spinel-containing alumina-based refractory castables

Ceramics International, 2011
Abstract Due to their high corrosion resistance to basic slags, either pre-formed or in situ spinel (MgAl2O4) containing refractory castables are nowadays widely used as steel ladle linings. Nevertheless, whereas the pre-formed spinel castables present high volumetric stability and a well-known processing technology, the in situ spinel castables ...

Very High Solids Castable Refractories

1994
Refractory shapes are conventionally produced from powder-water blends using a large variety of refractory ceramic compositions at many levels of solids loadings. Pure fine grained A12O3 may be slip cast at nearly 60 volume % solids; plastic fireclay may be cast at nearly 50 volume % solids; and some vibratory cast mixes may contain as much as 95 ...

Refractory Castables: Preparation and Some Properties

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1950
Refractory castables in this investigation contained (a) aggregate made from unused high‐duty fire‐clay brick or calcined Kentucky flint clay and ( b ) domestic or imported high‐alumina hydraulic cement. The bulk densities were determined for different mixtures of grog passing through (

High‐Alumina Boron‐Containing Refractory Castables

International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, 2014
This work addresses the optimization of alumina‐based castables designed for petrochemical applications by adding an additive able to speed up the samples' densification at lower temperatures. Hot elastic modulus, thermal shock, hot modulus of rupture, and erosion resistance measurements were carried out to evaluate these castables.

Vacuum-Cast Refractory Castables

Journal of the Structural Division, 1964
The compressive and modulus of rupture strength data for 2,400 F. to 3,400 F. commercial brands of castables and for 1 to 4 and 1 to 6 refractory concretes were investigated. The refractory concrete test specimens were prepared from the same batch of lumnite-lelite and lumnite-calcined flint clay materials.
