Implementation of industrial waste ferrochrome slag in conventional and low cement castables: Effect of calcined alumina

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2014
A new class of conventional and low-cement ferrochrome slag-based castables were prepared from 40 wt.% ferrochrome slag and 45 wt.% calcined bauxite. Rest fraction varied between high alumina cement (HAC) acting as hydraulic binder and calcined alumina ...

Influence of the type of phosphate additive and its concentration on the setting kinetics of CA cement bonded refractory castables with special regard to the resulting pH value

open access: yesOpen Ceramics, 2023
During the hydration of CA cement exists a dormant period, which is responsible for the setting kinetics of CA cement bonded refractory castables. The dormant period is believed to be caused by an Al–O–H passivation layer on the CA cement particles ...

Binder effect on ZnAl2O4-containing high-alumina refractory castables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In situ spinel (MgAl2O4, ZnAl2O4, etc.) formation in alumina-based castables has been pointed out as a key issue in the refractory area, as it may enhance the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of such materials.

Reologia de concretos refratários na presença de diferentes tipos de aditivo e ligante hidráulico Refractory castables rheology in the presence of different sort of additive and hydraulic binders

Effect of silica fume additions on the hydration behaviour of calcium aluminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In the recent refractory castables technology, the calcium aluminate cement is being replaced in increasing proportion by very fine matrix components, such as silica fume and colloidal alumina.

The Impact of In Situ-Formed Spinel on the Porosity of No-Cement Refractory Castables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The paper focuses on the determination of how in-situ formed magnesia-alumina spinel (MA spinel) content in corundum refractory castables influences the final properties and pore size distribution of no-cement refractory castables.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation
