Cracks in refractory concrete: Transgranular or intergranular?
We examine refractory concrete samples imaged in situ while undergoing compression. We suggest a method for quantifying the degree of transgranular cracking based on segmenting the aggregate and the crack systems in the computed tomography images.

ABSTRACT Stevens‐Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare, life‐threatening mucocutaneous reactions. Pediatric mortality is lower than in adults, but children face higher risks of recurrence and long‐term sequelae. Despite disease severity, pediatric‐specific guidelines remain scarce and often extrapolated from adult ...

Determination of the apparent porosity level of refractory concrete during a sintering process using an ultrasonic pulse velocity technique and image analysis [PDF]
Concrete which undergoes a thermal treatment before (pre-casted concrete blocks) and during (concrete embedded in-situ) its life-service can be applied in plants operating at high temperature and as thermal insulation. Sintering is a process which occurs

Toward a “strong” normativity of fear in Hans Jonas and Aristotle
Abstract What does it mean to say that one “ought” to undergo an emotion? In The Imperative of Responsibility, Hans Jonas provocatively asserts that twentieth‐century citizens “ought” to fear for the well‐being of future generations. I argue that Jonas's demand is not straightforwardly reducible to claims about the fittingness, expedience, or aretaic ...

“General Interest” Group or “Special Interest” Group? Understanding Nonworker Support for Unions
ABSTRACT The labor movement has mounted a comeback in recent years, with breakthrough organizing and strikes at employers including Starbucks, Amazon, UPS, and the major automakers. The continuation of this trend, which could help stem rising economic inequality, may depend partly on how successful unions are at rallying public support. Yet this may be
