Study of Refrigerant Leakage in Refrigeration System

Journal of Fire Sciences, 2002
In this paper, a method to calculate the leakage of the flammable refrigerants in the refrigeration system by simplifying the leaking process using hydromechanics is put forward. Based on the efflux theory, it also calculates the velocity and concentration fields of the refrigerant, and points out the existance of FOECA.

Refrigerant Leakage Detection and Diagnosis for a Distributed Refrigeration System

HVAC&R Research, 2006
A new technique to detect and diagnose leakage in a distributed refrigeration system is proposed in this paper. Unlike a simple refrigeration system of an HVAC system, a distributed refrigeration system, such as the refrigeration system in a supermarket, consists of several racks of compressors and evaporators, large condenser systems on the roof ...

Leakage rates of refrigerants through cracks

Chemical Engineering & Technology, 1989
AbstractAn independent preliminary mechanistic prediction method for leakage rates through small slit‐shaped through‐wall cracks, based on coupled pressure drop and (critical) mass flux calculation is presented. The predictions are verified against initially subcooled liquid refrigerants and water data collected during experiments in real and model ...

Refrigerant 12 Leakage in Automobile Air Conditioner Systems

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1981
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The paper presents measurements of whole vehicle refrigerant 12 leakage from a varied fleet of U.S. manufactured passenger automobiles in addition to measurements of some individual leak sources within the operating vehicles. Evaluation of Halogen leak detectors and of an R-12 refrigerant, Dytel, are also made with

An experimental and numerical study of refrigerator heat leakage at the gasket region

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2017
Abstract A combined experimental and computational approach was developed to measure the heat leakage through the refrigerator gasket region. The experiment was carried out by measuring the heat flux through the door gasket by Reverse Heat Load Method (RHLM).

Increasing the Reliability of Ship Refrigeration Units Through Permanent Control of Refrigerant Leakage

Georgian Maritime Scientific Journal
Refrigerating plants on board are used in refrigerating holds, gas carriers, and refrigerating chambers for receiving and maintaining low temperature, for conditioning air at all seasons, and other purposes. Separate elements of the refrigerating machines are cooled by fresh or seawater. That’s why the metal should be corrosion-proof.

Liquid Injected Seal to Reduce Leakage Flow in a Refrigerant Compressor

Volume 12: Turbomachinery: Multidisciplinary Design Approaches, Optimization, and Uncertainty Quantification; Turbomachinery: Radial Turbomachinery Aerodynamics; Turbomachinery: Unsteady Flows in Turbomachinery; Wind Energy; Special Lecture (Invited Only)
Abstract The leakage flow through a traditional labyrinth seal reduces the compressor capacity of an oil-free magnetic bearing centrifugal compressor. Also, the super-heated leakage flow pollutes the downstream coolant flow, affecting motor cooling.
