The evolution of robotics: research and application progress of dental implant robotic systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Oral Science
The use of robots to augment human capabilities and assist in work has long been an aspiration. Robotics has been developing since the 1960s when the first industrial robot was introduced.

Intergenerational inheritance of high fat diet-induced cardiac lipotoxicity in Drosophila

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Animal studies have shown that the nutritional status of parents can predispose the offspring to obesity and obesity-related diseases. Here the authors show that cardiac dysfunction induced by a high-fat diet persists for two generations in Drosophila ...

Regeneration tests of a room temperature magnetic refrigerator and heat pump [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
A magnetic heat pump apparatus consisting of a solid magnetic refrigerant, gadolinium, and a liquid regenerator column of ethanol and water has been tested. Utilizing a 7T field, it produced a maximum temperature span of 80 K, and in separate tests, a lowest temperature of 241 K and a highest temperature of 328 K.

A General Cyanine‐Based Platform for Designing Robust Dual‐Channel Near‐Infrared Fluorescent and Photoacoustic Probes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents a general cyanine‐based platform CySN for designing robust dual‐channel near‐infrared fluorescent (NIRF) and photoacoustic (PA) probes with high ratiometric signals change. CySN enables the construction of highly sensitive and selective dual‐channel NIRF/PA probes for both small molecule and enzyme biomarkers (H2O2, esterase ...

Device-to-Device Data Storage with Regenerating Codes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Caching data files directly on mobile user devices combined with device-to-device (D2D) communications has recently been suggested to improve the capacity of wireless net6works. We investigate the performance of regenerating codes in terms of the total energy consumption of a cellular network. We show that regenerating codes can offer large performance

ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES ASSOCIATED WITH INVASIVE GLOSSY BUCKTHORN (FRANGULA ALNUS MILL.) AND INDIRECT CONTROL STRATEGIES FOR FOREST MANAGERS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Glossy buckthorn (Frangula alnus Mill.) is one of the most prominent non-native invasive plant species affecting New England forests. It quickly invades a forest and can create a dense understory effectively altering the species composition and dynamics

Constructing Covalent Organic Polymers through Dative B─N Bonds: Synthesis, Single Crystal Structures, and Physical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic linkages are highly attractive in preparing single crystals of covalent organic polymers (COPs). Here, single crystals of two COPs CityU‐15 and CityU‐16 based on reversible B─N bonds are constructed using tetra(4‐pyridyl)tetrathiafulvalene and tetra(4‐pyridyl)porphine as monomers.
