Modelling of cryogenic cooling system design concepts for superconducting aircraft propulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Distributed propulsion concepts are promising in terms of improved fuel burn, better aerodynamic performance, and greater control. Superconducting networks are being considered for their superior power density and efficiency.

Regenerative Composition Structures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
A new class of random composition structures (the ordered analog of Kingman's partition structures) is defined by a regenerative description of component sizes. Each regenerative composition structure is represented by a process of random sampling of points from an exponential distribution on the positive halfline, and separating the points into ...

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

The Closed Loop Model by Regional Economics or How Big is the Ants’ Footprint? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The economy is communication between Man and Nature. It is an interaction-network between our outside and inside Nature, that is, the external Nature surrounding us and the internal nature expressing our human essence.

Direct numerical simulations of turbulent channel flow under transcritical conditions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Turbulent flows under transcritical conditions are present in regenerative cooling systems of rocker engines and extraction processes in chemical engineering. The turbulent flows and the corresponding heat transfer phenomena in these complex processes are still not well understood experimentally and numerically.

Highly Scalable, Raspberry‐Like Microbeads with Nano‐/Micro‐Confined Hybrid Hydrogel Desiccants for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable nano‐/micro‐confinement strategy is developed, where polyacrylamide (PAM)‐LiCl hybrid desiccants are confined within hollow nanoparticles (HNPs) and assembled into raspberry‐like microbeads. The beads have a hydrogel‐rich core and an NP‐rich shell for fast absorption and desorption, releasing water 13.6 L kg⁻¹ day⁻¹.

Regenerative real trees [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
In this work, we give a description of all sigma-finite measures on the space of rooted compact real trees which satisfy a certain regenerative property. We show that any infinite measure which satisfies the regenerative property is the "law" of a Levy tree, that is, the "law" of a tree-valued random variable that describes the genealogy of a ...

Microbubble‐Controlled Delivery of Biofilm‐Targeting Nanoparticles to Treat MRSA Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, an effective strategy using microbubble (MB)‐controlled delivery of biofilm‐targeting nanoparticles (BTNs) for removal and therapy of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) biofilm infections is introduced. In vivo delivery of MB with BTN is demonstrated to silence key bacterial genes involved in biofilm formation (icaA), bacterial ...

Dimensioning of automated regenerative cooling: Setting of high-end experiment

open access: yesAerospace Science and Technology, 2015
Abstract Regenerative cooling is widely used in high-pressure and high-thrust fuel-cooled rocket engines, also suitable for hypersonic structures. The propellant duality in terms of functions (fuel and coolant) makes the thermal and combustion management quite challenging.
