A review of regenerative cooling technologies for scramjets

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2021
Abstract Regenerative cooling technologies are considered as an effective and realizable thermal protection method in scramjets. In this paper, a review of regenerative cooling on the engineering application for the combustion chambers of scramjets is carried out.

Performance evaluation of regenerative cooling/film cooling for hydrocarbon fueled scramjet engine

Acta Astronautica, 2018
Abstract Thermal protection is considered to be a significant challenge for scramjet engine. In this paper, a combined cooling method which combines film cooling (F.C.) with regenerative cooling (R.C.) instead of single regenerative cooling for hydrocarbon fueled scramjet engine by using gaseous hydrocarbon fuel coming out of the cooling channel exit

Effect of film cooling/regenerative cooling on scramjet engine performances

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1994
Film cooling was modeled to allow performance prediction of scramjet engine design. The model was based on experimental results of the compressible mixing layer for the vicinity of the injection slot, and on analytical results of the turbulent boundary layer in the region far from the slot.

Polybranched regenerative GAX cooling cycles

International Journal of Refrigeration, 1995
After a short characterization of today's advanced absorption cooling systems, of multi-effect and generator-absorber heat exchange (GAX) type, this work introduces polybranched regenerative GAX cycles (PBR(GAX)). They combine the advantages of four cycles: GAX, branched GAX, regenerative GAX, and those with rectification heat recovery.

Fixed-Bed Reactors with Regenerative Cooling

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Fundamentals, 1971
A regeneratively cooled fixed-bed reactor system was studied theoretically. It consists of two sections which alternate roles as reactor and heat regenerator by periodic flow reversals. Calculations were performed for a single exothermic reaction using a forward cell model.

Regenerative cooling for liquid rocket engines

Journal of Thermal Science, 1995
Heat transfer in the thrust chamber is of great importance in the design of liquid propellant rocket engines. Regenerative cooling is an advanced method which can ensure not only the proper running but also higher performance of a rocket engine. The theoretical model is complicated, it relates to fluid dynamics, heat transfer, combustion, etc...

Propellant feed system of a regeneratively cooled scramjet

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1991
An expander cycle for an airframe-integrated hydrogen-fueled scramjet is analyzed to study regenerative cooling characteristics and overall specific impulse. Below Mach 10, the specific impulse and thrust coincide with the reference values. At Mach numbers above 10, a reduction of the specific impulse occurs due to the coolant flow rate requirement ...

Life analysis of regenerative-cooling thrust chamber

2014 ISFMFE - 6th International Symposium on Fluid Machinery and Fluid Engineering, 2014
Thrust chamber is an important part of liquid rocket engine (LRE), which always uses the structure of regenerative-cooling channels in order to lower the temperature of the wall. With the concept of reusability of LRE is advanced, the life analysis of regenerative-cooling chamber should be carried out.
