A numerical analysis of a reciprocating Active Magnetic Regenerator with a parallel-plate regenerator geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We have developed a two-dimensional model of a reciprocating Active Magnetic Regenerator(AMR) with a regenerator made of parallel plates arranged in a stack configuration.

Experimental Research on Heat Transfer Performance of Honeycomb Heat Regenerator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Heat transfer characteristics of honeycomb ceramic regenerator has been examined experimentally. The influence of switching time, flow rate of air and fuel gas on temperature distribution under unsteady heat transfer process in regenerator has been ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

REGENERATION OF THE CORNEA [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1909
It has long been known that the epithelium of the cornea would regenerate itself after being destroyed intentionally or by accident. Haller 1 as early as 1763, in his "Elementary Physiology of the Human Body," asserts that regeneration of the cornea takes place, and even the oldest ophthalmologists 2 assume that regeneration of corneal tissue occurs ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

A Magnetocaloric Booster Unit for Energy-Efficient Air-Conditioning

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
A concept for the application of a magnetocaloric device in energy-efficient air conditioners is introduced. In order to evaluate this concept, a test stand has been developed equipped with a magnetic field source providing about a 1.5-T flux density ...

Cardiac Regeneration

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2006
The role and even the existence of new myocyte formation in the adult heart remain controversial. Documentation of cell cycle regulators, deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis, and mitotic images has only in part modified the view that myocardial growth can be accomplished exclusively from hypertrophy of an irreplaceable population of differentiated myocytes.

Regenerator of lead acid accumulators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Isobaric Expansion Engines: New Opportunities in Energy Conversion for Heat Engines, Pumps and Compressors

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Isobaric expansion (IE) engines are a very uncommon type of heat-to-mechanical-power converters, radically different from all well-known heat engines. Useful work is extracted during an isobaric expansion process, i.e., without a polytropic gas/vapour ...
