Conservation Implications for the Iberian Narrow Endemic Androsace cantabrica (Primulaceae) Using Population Genomics With Target Capture Sequence Data. [PDF]
This study uses Angiosperms353 target capture sequencing to resolve the taxonomic status and conservation needs of Androsace cantabrica, a rare alpine plant endemic to northern Spain. Phylogenomic analyses confirm its distinctiveness from related species, and population genomic data reveal shallow genetic structure and moderate diversity, supporting ...

Linking Functional Traits To Trophic Roles In Scavenger Assemblages. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Scavenging is a widespread feeding strategy involving a diversity of taxa from different trophic levels, from apex predators to obligate scavengers. Scavenger species play a crucial role in ecosystem functioning by removing carcasses, recycling nutrients and preventing disease spread.

Culex pipiens distribution in Tunisia: Identification of suitable areas through Random Forest and MaxEnt approaches. [PDF]
In the present study, our aim was to predict and evaluate the potential and current distribution of Cx. pipiens in Tunisia by using two species distribution models, i.e. MaxEnt and Random Forest. Occurrence records for Cx. pipiens were obtained from adult and larvae sampled in Tunisia from 2014 to 2017.

Parallel adaptation to lower altitudes is associated with enhanced plasticity in Heliosperma pusillum (Caryophyllaceae). [PDF]
Significance Statement In early stages of adaptation to hotter and drier habitats, an alpine plant in the carnation family shows increased expression plasticity at ecologically relevant genes. This paper investigates two contrasting hypotheses regarding the role of phenotypic plasticity during evolution of alpine/montane plant ecotypes.

Unveiling the Evolutionary History of European Vipers and Their Venoms From a Multi-Omic Approach. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Snake genomes attract significant attention from multiple disciplines, including medicine, drug bioprospection, and evolutionary biology. However, genomic research within the Viperidae family has mostly focused on the subfamily Crotalinae, while the true vipers (Viperinae) have largely been overlooked.

MOPREDAS_century database and precipitation trends in mainland Spain, 1916–2020
Monthly trends were analysed using a moving windows approach with increasing, decreasing and fixed‐length intervals. The main results showed that the global trend (i.e., annual precipitation) between 1916 and 2020 mostly is not significant. Results obtained from monthly trend analysis show wet and dry periods.

Population dynamics of recovering apex predators: Golden eagles in a Mediterranean landscape
Density‐dependence, resource availability and human pressure at territorial level drive population dynamics in a recovering apex‐predator population. Abstract Apex predators play a critical role in shaping the biological and functional diversity of ecosystems.

Abstract Aim Pinewood decline and scrubland expansion are major features of Late Holocene vegetation history in the Cantabrian Range. However, the drivers of this remarkable vegetation shift remain to be investigated. Here, we aim at disentangling the role of past land use and climate in shaping the high‐elevation Cantabrian landscape during the past ...

Abstract New acritarch data from the Kistedalen Formation based on two sections with continuous exposure enable us to establish the most detailed Miaolingian acritarch biozonation in Baltica to date. Six interval zones previously established in Gondwana, the Eliasum llaniscum, Cristallinium cambriense, Adara alea, Timofeevia lancarae, Cristallinium ...

Elucidating historical fisheries’ networks in the Iberian Peninsula using stable isotopes
Abstract Processed fish is known to have been systematically traded in Europe since the Early Middle Ages to meet increasing demand of incipient markets and religious precepts, yet specific details regarding the supply of different fish in Southern Europe is often missing.
