DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

Socio-economic determinants and spatial analysis of access to sanitation among older adults in Ghana

open access: yesDiscover Social Science and Health
Access to sanitation is a fundamental human right essential for health and dignity, yet inadequate access remains a significant challenge globally. This has a significant negative impact on vulnerable populations, especially older adults.

Green wedges:origins and development in Britain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper analyzes the history of green wedges in Britain from their origins in the first decade of the twentieth century up until the outbreak of the Second World War. Often neglected by the literature in favour of the 'greenbelt', the 'green wedge' was

Complexation‐Mediated Diffusion‐Limited Crystal Growth: A General Framework for Anisotropic Crystal Growth in Cu‐Based Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Complexation‐Mediated Diffusion‐Limited Growth (CMDLG) framework is established to rationalize the anisotropic growth of lead‐free perovskites. Integrating coordination chemistry with mass transport kinetics, this study theoretically derives and experimentally validates that stable iodocuprate complexes induce a diffusion‐limited regime.

Halide‐Dependent Photoluminescence and Heavy‐Atom Effects in Low‐Melting Organic–Inorganic Manganese Halides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two pyridinium‐based ionic liquid templated hybrid manganese halides, (C4Py)2[MnCl4] and (C4Py)2[MnBr4], display similar bulk structures but show significantly different photoluminescence behaviors due to the bromine heavy‐atom effect. Their stable local Mn environments remain intact even in the molten state, allowing applications such as luminescence ...

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.

Changing Research Perspectives on the Global Health Workforce [PDF]

open access: yes
Past research on the health workforce can be structured into three perspectives – “health workforce planning” (1960 through 1970s); “the health worker as economic actor” (1980s through 1990s); and “the health worker as necessary resource” (1990s through ...
