Chemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.DFT calculations on porphyrin, corrin, and corphin complexes of cobalt, rhodium, iron, manganese, or nickel, and QM/MM calculations on enzyme models, explore the factors controlling the availably of super‐reduced metal(I) states. True metal(I) states are seen in corrin only for cobalt, in corphin only for nickel, and not at all in porphyrin.
