Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Active regions [PDF]

open access: yes
The following efforts were completed in support of the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM): (1) the evolution of solar vector photospheric magnetic fields in a flare-producing active region was studied; (2) an algorithm was developed to generate maps of force ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Geographical distribution of the vector species Trypanosoma cruzi for Chagas disease in Ecuador: A narrative review

open access: yesPopulation Medicine
Chagas disease is a complex clinical entity caused by a protozoan parasite, Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted by the bite of infected triatomines. The objective of this study was to establish the distribution of vector species of T.

Expansive components in H II regions

open access: yes, 2004
We study the presence of low intensity high velocity components, which we have termed wing features in the integrated Halpha emission line profiles of the HII region populations of the spiral barred galaxies NGC 1530, NGC 3359 and NGC 6951.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

On the Formation of Active Regions

open access: yes, 2012
Magneto-convection can produce an active region without an initial coherent flux tube. A simulation was performed where uniform, untwisted, horizontal magnetic field of 1 kG strenght was advected into the bottom of a computational domain 48 Mm wide by 20
