A Practical Introduction to Regression Discontinuity Designs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this Element and its accompanying second Element, A Practical Introduction to Regression Discontinuity Designs: Extensions, Matias Cattaneo, Nicolás  Idrobo, and Rocıìo Titiunik provide an accessible and practical guide for the analysis and interpretation of regression discontinuity (RD) designs that encourages the use of a common set of practices ...

Rdrobust: Software for Regression-discontinuity Designs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Stata Journal: Promoting communications on statistics and Stata, 2017
We describe a major upgrade to the Stata (and R) rdrobust package, which provides a wide array of estimation, inference, and falsification methods for the analysis and interpretation of regression-discontinuity designs. The main new features of this upgraded version are as follows: i) covariate-adjusted bandwidth selection, point estimation, and ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

The impact of retirement on blood pressure: evidence from a nationwide survey in China

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Introduction The health impact of retirement is controversial. Most previous studies have been based on self-reported health indicators or the endpoints of some chronic diseases (e.g., morbidity or mortality), but objective physiological indicators (e.g.,

An AI‐Enabled All‐In‐One Visual, Proximity, and Tactile Perception Multimodal Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Targeting integrated multimodal perception of robots, an AI‐enabled all‐in‐one multimodal sensor is proposed. This sensor is capable of perceiving three types of modalities, including vision, proximity, and tactility. By toggling an ultraviolet light and adjusting the camera focus, it switches smoothly between multiple perceptual modalities, enabling ...

The impact of 'equal educational opportunity' funds: a regression discontinuity design [PDF]

open access: yes
Many countries provide extra resources to schools serving disadvantaged pupils. We exploit a discontinuity in the assignment of such personnel subsidies in Flanders to estimate the impact on cognitive outcomes via a regression discontinuity (RD) design ...

Probing the Effective Treatment Thresholds for Alteplase in Acute Ischemic Stroke With Regression Discontinuity Designs

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) are considered the gold standard for measuring the efficacy of medical interventions. However, RCTs are expensive, and use a limited population.

TacScope: A Miniaturized Vision‐Based Tactile Sensor for Surgical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
TacScope is a compact, vision‐based tactile sensor designed for robot‐assisted surgery. By leveraging a curved elastomer surface with pressure‐sensitive particle redistribution, it captures high‐resolution 3D tactile feedback. TacScope enables accurate tumor detection and shape classification beneath soft tissue phantoms, offering a scalable, low‐cost ...
