Regular Polygon Surfaces

open access: yes, 2018
A $\textit{regular polygon surface}$ $M$ is a surface graph $( , )$ together with a continuous map $ $ from $ $ into Euclidean 3-space which maps faces to regular Euclidean polygons. When $ $ is homeomorphic to the sphere and the degree of every face of $ $ is five, we prove that $M$ can be realized as the boundary of a union of dodecahedra ...

Engineering “Meso‐Atom” Bonding: Honeycomb‐Network Transitions in Reticular Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Rod‐like molecules with highly branched carbosilane‐based side‐chains show two modes of aromatic core aggregation controlled by core fluorination. Serving as “meso‐atom bonds,” the locked‐in shift mode due to strong core–core interaction from fluorination replaces the A15‐type 3D cubic liquid crystal network phase by honeycombs with 2D periodicity ...

Periodic skyrmionic textures via conformal cartographic projections

open access: yesAPL Photonics
We find periodic skyrmionic textures via conformal cartographic projections that map either an entire spherical parameter space or a hemisphere onto every regular polygon that provides regular tessellations of the plane.

Multistable Composite Laminate Grids as a Design Tool for Soft Reconfigurable Multirotors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Flexible, lightweight, stable: the reconfigurable multirotor combines stable flight in multiple shapes with low‐energy reconfiguration. Utilizing optimized multistable composites, it achieves self‐locking in open and folded configurations, cutting width‐span by 48% and allowing for safe gap traversal.

Analysis for fluid-elastic instability of tube arrays in cross-flow

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2015
To date, no study has been conducted on analytical methods to solve the fluid dynamics governing equations system for the fluid-elastic vibration of tube arrays in a straightforward manner.

Polygonal approximation and energy of smooth knots [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
We establish a fundamental connection between smooth and polygonal knot energies, showing that the Minimum Distance Energy for polygons inscribed in a smooth knot converges to the Moebius Energy of the smooth knot as the polygons converge to the smooth knot.

Tiling Robotics: A New Paradigm of Shape‐Morphing Reconfigurable Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Tiling robotics is a novel paradigm of shape‐morphing reconfigurable robots, defining them as polyform‐inspired machines capable of transforming between at least two polymorphic shapes. Various reconfiguration‐enabling and locomotion mechanisms of tiling robots are comparatively analyzed, with the electromechanical developments, along with a proposed ...
