Advancing the mapping of vegetation structure in savannas using Sentinel‐1 imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
As vegetation structure monitoring is important for the understanding and conservation of savanna ecosystems, we explored the utility of C‐band synthetic aperture radar imagery for mapping both grassland and woody vegetation structure in the Greater Serengeti‐Mara Ecosystem.

Hyperspectral imaging has a limited ability to remotely sense the onset of beech bark disease

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Although hyperspectral imaging is a powerful remote sensing tool, it proved ineffective in predicting the progression of beech bark disease, except in its later stages, both at the canopy and leaf levels. While some alterations in chlorophyll, water content, and canopy structure may have influenced foliar reflectance at the canopy scale, as suggested ...

A Self‐assembled Fluid Honeycomb of Nonsymmetric Hexagons Formed by Nine Molecules in the Circumference

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A liquid crystalline honeycomb, representing a monohedral tiling by nonsymmetric hexagonal cells results from the self‐assembly of nine consecutive end‐to‐end H‐bonded p‐terphenyl derived molecules. This hexagonal cell is chiral in 2D space and gives rise to a p2gg tiling pattern, which generates a novel type of 2D tiling in ordered fluids.

Built‐In Electric Field Accelerates Nanotopography‐Mediated Enhancement of Vascularized Osseointegration via Cav1.2/Piezo/Ca2+/PI3K Signaling

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
Nanotopography improves the piezoelectric properties of BaTiO3 due to decreased Young's modulus. Nanotopography‐mediated mechanical stress dominantly boosts osteogenesis and angiogenesis via Piezo2/Piezo1/Ca2+ signaling. Augmented electric stimulation improves mechanical stress‐mediated osteogenic/angiogenic enhancement via PI3K/AKT/mTOR/GSK3β‐1 ...
