Response of Modelled Ice Masses to Regular Waves and Regular Wave Groups
Proceedings OCEANS '83, 1983An experimental investigation to determine the maximum instantaneous velocities attainable by a range of ice masses in regular waves and regular wave groups has been conducted. Models constructed of paraffin wax were shown to attain velocities approximately equal to those of the particle velocities in regular waves, for model beam to wavelength ratios ...

TRANSFORMATION OF REGULAR WAVES.
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, 1987Results are presented from calculations for shoaling waves using a development of Dean's non-linear stream function which display better agreement with previous experimental data for parallel waves in shallow water than other currently available theories. The results are presented in a manner suitable for design applications. In addition to wave height

Regularity Results for Nonlinear Wave Equations
The Annals of Mathematics, 1993We report on some recent progress on the Cauchy problem for semilinear wave equations \(u_{tt} - \Delta u + g(u) = 0\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n \times \mathbb{R}\) for smooth nonlinearities \(g\) of critical growth \(g(u) = u |u |^{2^* - 2}\) for large \(|u |\), where \(2^* = (2n)/(n - 2)\), and related problems. Our aim in this article is twofold.

Chaotic sound waves in a regular billiard
Physical Review E, 2003We present experimental results for the ultrasound transmission spectra and standing wave patterns of a rectangular block of fused quartz. A comparison is made between our data and an approximation of the theoretical staircase function for three-dimensional isotropic elasticity.

ON THE SIMULATION OF REGULAR WAVES IN A NUMERICAL WAVE TANK
Advances and Applications in Fluid Mechanics, 2018The use of renewable sources for electricity generation has been accelerated because of high fuel prices of fossil fuels. In addition to this, the use of conventional fuel supplies is no longer able to cater for the ever increasing energy demands of the modern world which is experiencing an age of rapid expansion.

Scattering of regularized-long-wave solitary waves
Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1984The Lagrangian density for the regularized-long-wave equation (also known as the BBM equation) is presented. Using the trial function technique, ordinary differential equations that describe the time dependence of the position of the peaks, amplitudes, and widths for the collision of two solitary waves are obtained.

Travelling Wave Solutions of the General Regularized Long Wave Equation
Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems, 2021This paper studies the model of the general regularized long wave (GRLW) equation. The main contribution of this paper is to find that GRLW equation has extra kink and anti-kink wave solutions when $p = 2n + 1$, while it's not for $p = 2n$. The authors give the phase diagram and obtained possible exact explicit parametric representation of the ...

Wave Height and Planing Hull Wave Slams in Regular Waves
SNAME Chesapeake Power Boat Symposium, 2016High-speed planing boats are subject to repeated slamming impacts. These impacts can cause structural damage and discomfort, or even injury, to passengers. The motivation for this research is to determine a relationship between wave height and vertical accelerations of planing crafts.

The Regularity of Solutions of Nonlinear Wave Equations
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1989The equation studied is \(u_{tt}+(-\Delta)^ mu+au+f(u)=g\) where the nonlinear term depends on u and its derivatives and satisfies various conditions.

On the Regularity Properties of the Wave Equation
1994The research we want to report about has been motivated by the study of the regularity properties of solutions to the equations of “wave maps3 ” defined from the Minkowski space-time M n+1 to a Riemannian manifold N. Our interest in these equations is due to the fact that they are the simplest system of wave equations, derived from a relativistic ...
