Who's Afraid of Naked Singularities?

open access: yes, 1999
To probe naked spacetime singularities with waves rather than with particles we study the well-posedness of initial value problems for test scalar fields with finite energy so that the natural function space of initial data is the Sobolev space.

Hydrodynamics of Regular Breaking Wave

open access: yes, 2021
Turbulence and undertow currents play an important role in surf-zone mixing and transport processes; therefore, their study is fundamental for the understanding of nearshore dynamics and the related planning and management of coastal engineering activities.

Gravitational Waves from The Newtonian plus H\'enon-Heiles System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
In this work we analyze the emission of gravitational waves from a gravitational system described by a Newtonian term plus a H\'enon-Heiles term. The main concern is to analyze how the inclusion of the Newtonian term changes the emission of gravitational

Gravitational Wave Signals from Chaotic System: A Point Mass with A Disk

open access: yes, 2007
We study gravitational waves from a particle moving around a system of a point mass with a disk in Newtonian gravitational theory. A particle motion in this system can be chaotic when the gravitational contribution from a surface density of a disk is ...

COMPUTATIONAL MODELING OF A REGULAR WAVE TANK [PDF]

open access: yesRevista de Engenharia Térmica, 2009
This paper presents two different numerical methodologies to generate regular gravity waves in a wave tank. We performed numerical simulations of wave generation through the FLUENT® package, using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model to reproduce the wave propagation in the tank.

Long‐Term Regularity of 3D Gravity Water Waves [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, 2021
AbstractWe study a fundamental model in fluid mechanics—the 3D gravity water wave equation, in which an incompressible fluid occupying half the 3D space flows under its own gravity. In this paper we show long‐term regularity of solutions whose initial data is small but not localized. Our results include: almost global well‐posedness for unweighted ...

Comparison of Nonlinear Wave-Loading Models on Rigid Cylinders in Regular Waves

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Monopiles able to support very large offshore wind turbines are slender structures susceptible to nonlinear resonant phenomena. With the aim to better understand and model the wave-loading on these structures in very steep waves where ringing occurs and ...

Quasi regular concentric waves in heterogeneous lattices of coupled oscillators

open access: yes, 2005
We study the pattern formation in a lattice of coupled phase oscillators with quenched disorder. In the synchronized regime concentric waves can arise, which are induced and increase in regularity by the disorder of the system.

Backward Diffusion-Wave Problem: Stability, Regularization, and Approximation

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2022
We aim at the development and analysis of the numerical schemes for approximately solving the backward diffusion-wave problem, which involves a fractional derivative in time with order $ \in(1,2)$. From terminal observations at two time levels, i.e., $u(T_1)$ and $u(T_2)$, we simultaneously recover two initial data $u(0)$ and $u_t(0)$ and hence the ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
