Modeling a semi‐flexible filament in cellular Stokes flow using regularized Stokeslets
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, 2011SUMMARYMany physical and biological systems involve inextensible fibers immersed in a fluid; examples include cilia, polymer suspensions, and actin filament transport. In such systems, the dynamics of the immersed fibers may play a significant role in the observed macroscale fluid dynamics.

Kernel-independent fast multipole method within the framework of regularized Stokeslets
Journal of Fluids and Structures, 2016Abstract The method of regularized Stokeslets (MRS) uses a radially symmetric blob function of infinite support to smooth point forces and allows for evaluation of the resulting flow field. This is a common method to study swimmers at zero Reynolds number where the Stokeslet is the fundamental solution corresponding to the kernel of the single layer ...

The Method of Regularized Stokeslets
SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2001This paper presents a numerical method for computing Stokes flows with immersed boundaries and obstacles. The method is based on the smoothing of forces, leading to regularized stokeslets. The resulting expressions give pressure and velocity fields as functions of the forcing.

The method of regularized Stokeslets is a Lagrangian method for computing Stokes flow driven by forces distributed at material points in a fluid. It is based on the superposition of exact solutions of the Stokes equations when forces are given by a cutoff function.

AbstractWe focus on the problem of evaluating the velocity field outside a solid object moving in an incompressible Stokes flow using the boundary integral formulation. For points near the boundary, the integral is nearly singular, and accurate computation of the velocity is not routine.

Bacteria such as Rhodobacter sphaeroides use a single flagellum for propulsion and change of orientation. These types of simple organisms have inspired microrobotic designs with potential applications in medicine, which motivates this work. In this paper, an elastic model for a single-flagellum micro-structure is presented and followed by an analysis ...
