Exercise-induced mitral regurgitation and right ventricle to pulmonary circulation uncoupling across the heart failure phenotypes [PDF]

open access: closedAmerican Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2020
Ex-MR is a common mechanism across the spectrum of HF subtypes and combines with ventilatory inefficiency and RV-PC uncoupling. Interestingly, in HFpEF, Ex-MR emerged as unexpectedly prevalent and peculiarly associated with increased chronotropic response and peripheral O2 extraction as potential adaptive mechanisms to backward flow redistribution.

An Integrated Imaging and Circulating Biomarker Approach for Secondary Tricuspid Regurgitation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Personalized Medicine, 2020
Secondary tricuspid regurgitation (sTR) is frequent among patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), however it confers considerable diagnostic challenges. The assessment of neurohumoral activation may constitute a valuable supplement to the current imaging-based diagnostic process.

Putative Circulating MicroRNAs Are Able to Identify Patients with Mitral Valve Prolapse and Severe Regurgitation [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2021
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) associated with severe mitral regurgitation is a debilitating disease with no pharmacological therapies available. MicroRNAs (miRNA) represent an emerging class of circulating biomarkers that have never been evaluated in MVP human plasma.

Transcatheter aortic valve-in-valve implantation in right ventricle-aorta conduit in an adult patient with Fontan circulation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology Congenital Heart Disease, 2023
Catheter interventions can offer patient tailored solutions in high-risk congenital heart disease patients. A 21-year-old male with a Fontan circulation in the setting of unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect with a hypoplastic left ventricle and an ...

Quantitative aortography for assessment of aortic regurgitation in the era of percutaneous aortic valve replacement

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a shortcoming that can erode the clinical benefits of transcatheter valve replacement (TAVR) and therefore a readily applicable method (aortography) to quantitate PVL objectively and accurately in the interventional suite is ...

Anesthetic management of a patient with severe aortic regurgitation undergoing reoperation for ascending aorta false aneurysm using hypothermia: prevention of ventricular fibrillation by nifekalant

open access: yesJA Clinical Reports, 2021
Background To prevent cardiac collapse and to protect cerebral function, hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass is established before resternotomy. However, ventricular fibrillation under hypothermia facilitates left ventricular distension, which causes ...

Cerebral Outflow Discrepancies in Recurrent Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo: Focus on Ultrasonographic Examination

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
This prospective pilot study aimed to evaluate whether cerebral inflow and outflow abnormalities assessed by ultrasonographic examination could be associated with recurrent benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).
