Role of circulating interleukin-17 level in progression of mitral regurgitation in pediatric patient with rheumatic heart disease [PDF]
Rheumatic heart disease (RHO) is a sequela of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) caused by the delayed immune response after group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus (GABHS) infection. It is the most frequent etiology of permanent heart valve damage in pediatrics, especially in the mitral valve.

Circulating Concentrations of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 in Dogs with Naturally Occurring Mitral Regurgitation [PDF]
Insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (IGF‐1), which mediates most effects of growth hormone, has effects on cardiac mass and function, and plays an important role in the regulation of vascular tone. In humans, an inverse relationship between degree of heart failure (HF) and circulating IGF‐1 concentrations has been found in several studies.

Disturbance of intracardiac hemodynamics in children with chronic rheumatic cardiac disease [PDF]
By means of Doppler echocardiography there have been studied disturbances of intracardiac hemodynamics in 44 children aged 8-17 years with chronic rheumatic cardiac disease and developed mitral aortal and combined heart defects, as well as in chronic ...

Tricuspid regurgitation and the right ventricle in risk stratification and timing of intervention
Tricuspid regurgitation natural history and treatment remains poorly understood. Right ventricular function is a key factor in determining prognosis, timing for intervention and longer-term outcome.

Circulating Progenitor and Apoptotic Progenitor Cells in Patients With Aortic Regurgitation
Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have a role in the repair of endothelial surfaces after injury. Reduced numbers of EPCs are related to endothelial dysfunction and adverse clinical events, suggesting that endothelial injury in the absence of sufficient repair by circulating EPCs promotes the progression of vascular disease or valvular disorder.
