Fully Three-Dimensional Hemodynamic Characterization of Altered Blood Flow in Bicuspid Aortic Valve Patients With Respect to Aortic Dilatation: A Finite Element Approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Background and PurposePrognostic models based on cardiovascular hemodynamic parameters may bring new information for an early assessment of patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), playing a key role in reducing the long-term risk of cardiovascular ...

State-of-the-Art Review: Technical and Imaging Considerations in Novel Transapical and Port-Access Mitral Valve Chordal Repair for Degenerative Mitral Regurgitation

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR) based on posterior leaflet prolapse is the most frequent type of organic mitral valve disease and has proven to be durably repairable in most cases by chordal repair techniques either by conventional median ...

Moving Domain Computational Fluid Dynamics to Interface with an Embryonic Model of Cardiac Morphogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Peristaltic contraction of the embryonic heart tube produces time- and spatial-varying wall shear stress (WSS) and pressure gradients (∇P) across the atrioventricular (AV) canal.

Prenatal Sonographic Features of Fetuses in Trisomy 13 Pregnancies (IV)

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2010
Prenatal ultrasound is a powerful tool to detect structural abnormalities associated with the fetuses in trisomy 13 pregnancies. This article provides a comprehensive review of the prenatal sonographic markers of trisomy 13 in the first trimester ...

Successful Treatment With Ivabradine for Junctional Ectopic Tachycardia-Induced Cardiomyopathy With Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Arrhythm
A patient with hypoplastic left heart syndrome developed heart failure due to tachycardia‐induced cardiomyopathy from junctional ectopic tachycardia. Conventional antiarrhythmic therapy was ineffective, but ivabradine successfully controlled the arrhythmia and improved both ventricular function and heart failure.

A Meta‐Analysis and Simplified Nomenclature for Diagonal Coronary Artery and Ramus Intermedius Across Adult and Pediatric Hearts

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Anatomical descriptions of left‐sided oblique coronary branches remain inconsistent, hindering imaging interpretation and surgical planning. To quantify the prevalence, branching patterns and morphometry of the ramus intermedius (RI) and diagonal branches, and propose a unified nomenclature.

Association of PET-measured myocardial flow reserve with echocardiography-estimated pulmonary artery systolic pressure in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundPulmonary hypertension (PH) is a known complication of HCM and is a strong predictor of mortality. We aim to investigate the relationship between microvascular dysfunction measured by quantitative PET and PH in HCM patients.MethodsEighty-nine ...

Adipocytes in Aortic Stenosis: Association With Clinical and Morphological Indices

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recently, great attention has been given to understanding the new pathogenetic mechanisms underlying aortic stenosis (AS). The study aims to understand the role of mature adipocytes in AS and their association with histologic, clinical, and echocardiographic data, an area previously overlooked in AS research.

Multi-Modality Imaging for Interventions in Tricuspid Valve Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Several studies have demonstrated that severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has a significant negative impact on morbidity and mortality. Nowadays, several therapeutic options to treat TR are available and patients at high surgical risk can also be ...

Response to pulmonary arterial hypertension drug therapies in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and cardiovascular risk factors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The age at diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and the prevalence of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors are increasing. We sought to determine whether the response to drug therapy was influenced by CV risk factors in PAH patients. We studied
