Modeling the Impacts of Self‐Sufficiency Scenarios on Norwegian National Nutrient Supply

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 5, Issue 1, June 2026.
Food and nutrient flows through national food systems have important implications for national self‐sufficiency. Here, we examine food and nutrient flows through the Norwegian food system currently and under various possible scenarios. ABSTRACT As a part of the Norwegian strategy to meet the commitments they have made through international climate ...

The Consequences of State Intervention: Forced Relocations and Sámi Rights in Sweden, 1919–2012

open access: yesJournal of Ethnology and Folkloristics, 2014
From the late 19th century up until the post-war period, Swedish Sámi policy was dominated by an image of the Sámi as nomadic reindeer herders. As nomads, the Sámi connection to the land they used was generally considered weaker than that of the settled ...

Using information theory to select spatial scales for species–habitat responses with camera traps

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 4, June 2026.
Abstract Widespread anthropogenic landscape change, particularly from energy development, has fundamentally reshaped ecosystems, and understanding species responses remains a central ecological challenge. Remote camera traps are widely used to estimate mammal abundance and distribution, but inferring species–habitat relationships from these data is ...

Status, directions and priorities of reindeer husbandry research in Sweden

open access: yes, 2000
Emerging out of small-scale reindeer farming, large-scale reindeer husbandry in Sweden and Norway was developed to counteract resource scarcity caused by depleted wild reindeer numbers and human population growth above what the former subsistence economy

Direct Interaction Between Roe Deer and Mountain Hare, a Case of Interference Encounter Competition?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Here, we report on a case of direct interaction between a roe deer doe and a mountain hare recorded by a camera trap in Tydal Municipality, Norway, suggestive of direct interference competition. The roe deer doe is following and displacing the mountain hare for at least 2 min and 29 s, including a 19 s active phase.

Habitat complexity and prey composition shape an apex predator's habitat use across contrasting landscapes

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 6, June 2026.
The spatial ecology of stalk‐and‐ambush predators like the Eurasian lynx Lynx lynx depends on prey availability and environmental features, yet the relative roles of these factors remain unclear at large spatial scales. In this study, we analysed lynx habitat use across central and southern Finland using snow‐track data from the Wildlife Triangle ...

Warming summers limit reindeer grazing, weakening herbivory pressure in the mountain tundra

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 6, June 2026.
Climate change is predicted to alter species interactions by exposing ecosystems to increasingly frequent and intense warm spells. In the mountain tundra, grazing by large herbivores, particularly reindeer, can limit shrub expansion and preserve Arctic plant diversity.

Custodial reindeer and custodial goats - part of reindeer herding and animal husbandry

open access: yesRangifer, 2009
The Sami husbandry has traditionally incorporated reindeer, which did not belong to the nomadic household. According to the national census from 1875, this system was found in many parts of Norway. Among the counties, Nordland stood out having the highest number of households owing custodial reindeer.

Using Traditional Knowledge in Unpredictable Critical Events in Reindeer Husbandry. The case of Sámi reindeer husbandry in Western Finnmark, Norway and Nenets reindeer husbandry on Yamal peninsula, Yamal-Nenets AO, Russia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis investigates in what way traditional knowledge is used when unpredictable critical events occur in Sámi reindeer husbandry in Western Finnmark, Norway and Nenets reindeer husbandry on Yamal peninsula, Russia.

Triplet or Quadruplet Regimen Utilization and Overall Survival in Patients Diagnosed With Multiple Myeloma Between 2017 and 2023

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Multiple myeloma treatment has rapidly evolved, but little is known about the uptake of guideline‐recommended triplet or quadruplet therapy in clinical practice. Methods This retrospective cohort study included adult patients newly diagnosed with multiple myeloma between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2023, in one health system
