Building lightweight structures with carbon‐fiber‐reinforced polymer‐reinforced ultra‐high‐performance concrete: Research approach, construction materials, and conceptual design of three building components

open access: yesStructural Concrete, 2018
The building industry, and especially the concrete industry, consumes a considerable proportion of the natural resources extracted from the lithosphere and is responsible for a large part of the solid waste generated worldwide.

Corrosion assessment on reinforced concrete and its service life prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Deterioration of structural concrete may be caused either by chemical or physical effects. Corrosion of embedded steel is a major cause of deterioration of concrete structures at the present time.

Quasi‐Static Compression Response and Energy Absorption of CNTF/EP Origami Thin‐Walled Tubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This research innovatively uses CNTF/EP composite material to fabricate origami thin‐walled tubes, investigating their quasi‐static compression deformation modes and performance. It examines the effects of introducing secondary creases on deformation modes and the energy absorption metrics of the thin‐walled tubes.

Transmission factors and exposure to infections at work and invasive pneumococcal disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 66, Issue 1, Page 65-74, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Working in close contacts with coworkers or the general public may be associated with transmission of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). We investigated whether crowded workplaces, sharing surfaces, and exposure to infections were factors associated with IPD.

The Deteriorations of Reinforced Concrete and the Option of High Performances Reinforced Concrete

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2015
AbstractThe durability of a reinforced concrete construction could be defined as the ability of the two materials, concrete and the embedded reinforcing steel, to maintain their physical and mechanical performances in satisfactory security conditions during the prescribed service life of the structure and in prescribed working conditions. From this, it

Cracking assessment in concrete structures by distributed optical fiber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, a method to obtain crack initiation, location and width in concrete structures subjected to bending and instrumented with an optical backscattered reflectometer (OBR) system is proposed.

A Bilayer Micro/Nanostructured Water‐Based Paint With Effective Thermal Insulating and Reflective Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The design, optimization and characterization of a new bilayer painting system is presented. The underlying layer is engineered to provide exceptional thermal insulation through the synergistic effect of hollow perlite microspheres and micrometer‐sized cellulose particles. The external painting layer is designed to induce the formation of a homogeneous

Evaluation of the characteristics of workers injured on the job requiring hospitalization, and employer compliance with OSHA's reporting requirement for these work‐related hospitalizations

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 66, Issue 2, Page 109-121, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Background The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) implemented a new standard in 2014 requiring employers to report nearly all work‐related inpatient hospitalizations within 24 h of the event. We examined the characteristics of the injured workers who were reported and the compliance of Michigan employers with the regulation ...

PREDICTION OF CONCRETE MIXTURE DESIGN AND COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH THROUGH DATA ANALYSIS AND MACHINE LEARNING [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics of Continua and Mathematical Sciences
Concrete is the most used building material in civil engineering. The mechanical properties of concrete depend on the percentage of materials used in the mix design.
