Biological Reinforced Concrete for Cartilage Repair With 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by concrete rebar structures in engineering, the concept of biological reinforced concrete uses 3D‐printed ultrafine fiber networks (UFNs) as biodegradable “biorebars”, hybrid biohydrogels as “biocement”, and stem cells as “bioactive aggregates” to fabricate biomimetic cartilage.

Predicting the impact of water transport on carbonation-induced corrosion in variably saturated reinforced concrete [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A modelling framework for predicting carbonation-induced corrosion in reinforced concrete is presented. The framework constituents include a new model for water transport in cracked concrete, a link between corrosion current density and water saturation, and a theory for characterising concrete carbonation.

Surface‐Engineered Cenospheres Encapsulating Phase Change Materials for Functional Cementitious Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The global energy demand drives the need for advanced energy‐efficient building solutions. While current polymeric‐shell microencapsulated PCMs show promise for thermal energy storage, their use in cementitious materials is challenged by poor shell strength and interfacial bonding. This study develops novel cement‐compatible microencapsulated PCM using

Bioinspired Adaptive Neuron Enabled by Self‐powered Optoelectronic Memristor and Threshold Switching Memory for Neuromorphic Visual System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The self‐powered optoelectronic memristor based on ZnO/WOx heterojunction is developed, exhibiting the visual adaptation functions of desensitization and Weber's law. A bioinspired visual adaptive neuron is constructed, capable of converting light stimuli into dynamic spike trains.

Fostering uncertainty tolerance in anatomy education: Lessons learned from how humanities, arts and social science (HASS) educators develop learners' uncertainty tolerance

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 16, Issue 1, Page 128-147, January/February 2023., 2023
Abstract Uncertainty tolerance, individuals' perceptions/responses to uncertain stimuli, is increasingly recognized as critical to effective healthcare practice. While the Covid‐19 pandemic generated collective uncertainty, healthcare‐related uncertainty is omnipresent.

Agile Free‐Form Signal Filtering and Routing with a Chaotic‐Cavity‐Backed Non‐Local Programmable Metasurface

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multi‐parameter‐tunable, all‐metallic, low‐loss, wave‐chaotic cavity enables a frequency‐insensitive (over a 7 GHz bandwidth) technique to synthesize desired transfer functions within smaller windows to high accuracy and with complete reconfigurability of shapes and center frequencies.
