Effects of reinforcement corrosion on reinforced concrete buildings
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2022The aim of this paper is to present the different effects of reinforcement corrosion on reinforced concrete buildings. A hypothetical five-storey reinforced concrete building frame was designed for this purpose. Three different modes of action were selected – corrosion on the ground floor alone, corrosion on one facade and corrosion on two neighbouring

Historical reinforced concrete high-rise buildings
2014Reinforced concrete structures built without reference to a seismic design code in areas that have subsequently been included in a seismic zone may significantly increase the seismic risk of a country. At present, in Italy approximately 60 percent of the building stock, of which reinforced concrete buildings are a large fraction, belongs to sites not ...

Poor seismic performance of reinforced concrete buildings has been demonstrated dramatically in major earthquakes over the past 40 years across the world. This chapters covers a background to reinforced concrete and precast concrete construction, the observed vulnerabilities of reinforced concrete buildings in earthquakes and specific local retrofit ...

Damages to Reinforced Concrete Buildings
2012Typical damages to reinforced concrete buildings, both by the ground motions and the tsunami waves, are outlined in this section. The report herein is based primarily on the field survey of the AIJ members and collected through the members of the Reinforced Concrete Steering Committee of AIJ.

Movements of reinforced concrete buildings
Australian Surveyor, 1985Abstract The setting-out of high rise buildings has always called for extreme precision both in the observations made and the placement and nature of permanent marks used. Concrete has been regarded by surveyors as being extremely stable and an ideal surface for the placement of reference and control marks.

Dynamic response of reinforced concrete buildings
International Journal of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 1982<p>During the last tow decades, remarkable progress has been made toward the better understanding of the performance of reinforced concrete buildings when subjected to destructive earthquake motions. This volume examines the literature with regard to analytical methods for modeling their dynamic failure, and is intended to provide a summary ...

This chapter presents research developments made in the field of seismic assessment of reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings. Special attention is given to the case of masonry-infilled RC frames which are very common in Italy and are often damaged in earthquakes, as illustrated by previous events such as the L’Aquila earthquake in Central Italy in ...

Slipforming of Reinforced Concrete Shield Building
Journal of the Construction Division, 1982The unique design and construction features of slipforming the heavily reinforced concrete cylindrical shield walls at the Satsop nuclear plant site are presented. It proved that, with proper planning, design, and coordination, the slipform construction technique can be successfully applied to large and heavily reinforced concrete structures.
