Dynamic Test of Negative Stiffness Damped Outrigger With Damping Amplification

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 1141-1155, 10 April 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper proposed a novel negative stiffness damped outrigger with damping amplification (NSDO‐DA) through a smart combination of an L‐shape lever, a precompressed disc spring brace (DSB), and a viscous damper. A theoretical model of the NSDO‐DA considering nonlinear adaptive negative stiffness, damping amplification of nonlinear viscous ...

Colourful Urban Birds: Bird Species Successful in Urban Environments Have More Elaborate Colours and Less Brown

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 4, April 2025.
Urban bird communities are more colour‐diverse after accounting for species richness. We also found that bird species that do well in urban environments are less likely to be brown and exhibit more elaborate colours, but not higher sexual dichromatism. ABSTRACT Rapidly expanding urbanisation presents significant challenges to wildlife.

Experimental Investigation on Shear Behavior of Double Sided Reinforced Concrete Corbels Using BFRP Bars

open access: yesZanco Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences
A reinforced concrete corbel is a short cantilever structural member extending from columns or walls, resisting mostly vertical loads by shear action. The paper presents an experimental investigation on the shear behavior of reinforced concrete corbels ...

SHALLOW FLAT SOFFIT PRECAST CONCRETE FLOOR SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A precast concrete floor system that eliminates the need for column corbels and beam ledges while being very shallow. The main advantages of the present system include a span to-depth ratio of 30, a flat soffit, economy, consistency with prevailing ...

Robustness of Dry‐Assembled Precast Wall and Coupled Wall‐Frame High‐Rise Structures With Voided Prestressed Slabs

open access: yesThe Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, Volume 34, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Precast concrete structures are recognized among the structural typologies that may mostly suffer from progressive collapse as a consequence of local unpredicted damage, also due to past accidents occurred in buildings employing old precast technologies neglecting the basic robustness criteria and characterized by poorly detailed and/or ...

Performance Analysis of Self‐Resetting Pier–Beam Node of Sheet–Pile Bridge Based on Vehicle–Bridge Coupling Vibration

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
To address the issue of excessive stress at the secondary pier–beam joints of multispan continuous sheet–pile bridges caused by large longitudinal displacements, this study proposes a novel structural configuration incorporating prestressed self‐resetting reinforcement at the pier–beam connection.
