Adapting the FlexiArch for widening a complex arch bridge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The 1840's Teewell Hill arch bridge, in the suburbs of Bristol, UK, was no longer adequate for increasing local traffic levels and needed to be widened.

Finite Element Performance Assessment of RC Columns Strengthened With Hybrid NSM Steel and FRP Bars Subjected to Static and Repeated Loads

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
A numerical finite element analysis has been investigated in this paper to examine the performance of strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) columns with near‐surface mounted (NSM) fiber‐reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel bars under static and repeated loads using the finite element software ABAQUS/Standard.

Strengths of Struts and Nodal Zones for Strut-and-Tie Model Design of Reinforced Concrete Corbels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The strut-and-tie model (STM) method is useful for the limit state design of reinforced concrete (RC) corbels. However, for the rational design of RC corbels, designers must accurately determine the strengths of concrete struts and nodal zones to check ...

Combining GPR, Passive Seismic, and Load Testing With Computational Models in the Assessment of Historical Bridges: The Case Study of the Comboa Bridge

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The preservation of historical bridges usually requires extensive structural evaluations for possible damage detection. Therefore, effective techniques are essential for diagnosis and, consequently, proper maintenance and rehabilitation actions. The combination of techniques provides complementary data that support decision making.

Distributions of non‐native and native plants are not determined by the same environmental factors

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 5, Issue 4, October–December 2024.
Distributions of non‐native plant species are driven more strongly by anthropogenic variables than distributions of native plant species, though climate is the most powerful predictor in both species groups. Species distribution models should therefore be fitted with different variables based on the study species' degree of nativeness.

Reinforced Concrete Corbel’s Behavior using Strut and Tie Model

open access: yesJournal of the Civil Engineering Forum, 2018
Reinforced concrete (RC) corbel is one of a disturbed region of elements of the structure. SNI 2847: 2013 as a guideline from Ministry of Public Works provides the design of RC corbels by the conventional method and with Strut and Tie Model (STM).

Structural seismic performance of reinforced concrete block system for two storeys safe house [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Severe earthquakes in year 2004 had caused a destructive tsunami and killed more than 170,000 people in Aceh Indonesia. The disaster raises the public awareness and demand in safe house. This paper presented the structural failure behaviour, strength and

Effect of CFRP Sheets Strengthening Method on Behaviour of Modified Lightweight Foamed Concrete Beams

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
This study has been adopted to examine the effect of carbon fibre‐reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheet strengthening methods on the flexural behaviour of modified foamed concrete beams reinforced with different steel reinforcement ratios, and it deals with the enhancement in flexural behaviour of conventional nonstrengthened FC beams. Twelve modified foamed

Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Omnidirectional Steel Moment Connection With Through‐Plate Panel Zone Under Cyclic Loading

open access: yesShock and Vibration, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
This paper proposes a new beam to column connection, namely, the omnidirectional steel moment connection with through‐plate panel zone, which enables the connection of more than four beams to a column in moment frames at any arbitrary angle. The proposed connection was experimentally and numerically analyzed under cyclic loading.
