Additive‐Manufactured, Multifunctional Bioreactor Technology for Dynamic Culture of 3D Bioprinted Tissue Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...

Fracture Behavior of Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Assessed Using a High-Speed Camera

open access: yesBuildings
The brittle characteristics of fiber-reinforced concrete make it difficult to capture the time-varying properties during its flexural failure. This study employed high-speed imaging to investigate the effects of polypropylene fiber, polyvinyl alcohol ...

Analysis and capacity based earthquake resistant design of multi bay multi storeyed RC frame. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Earthquakes in different parts of the world demonstrated the disastrous consequences and vulnerability of inadequate structures. Many reinforced concrete (RC) framed structures located in zones of high seismicity in India are constructed without ...

Seismic strengthening of reinforced concrete frames by precast concrete panels

open access: yesMagazine of Concrete Research, 2011
An innovative occupant-friendly retrofitting technique has been developed for reinforced concrete (RC)-framed structures which constitute the major portion of the existing building stock. The idea is to convert the existing hollow brick infill wall into a load-carrying system acting as a cast-in-place concrete shear wall by reinforcing it with ...

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.
