Diagonal compression cyclic testing of unreinforced and reinforced masonry walls

Construction and Building Materials, 2022
Steel reinforced plasters (SRP) are a traditional strengthening solution of existing masonry structures. SRPs consist of a thin layer of cementitious mortar or concrete (jacket) that incorporates a steel reinforcing mesh tied to a series of steel bent connectors embedded in the underlying masonry.

Strengthening masonry infill walls with reinforced plaster

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2010
One technique for strengthening masonry infill walls against seismic lateral forces permitted by the Turkish Seismic Code is to add a plaster layer with mesh reinforcement to one face of the wall. The study described in this paper was performed to test and analyse the effectiveness of this technique for lateral loads.

Composite Materials Reinforcement of Existing Masonry Walls

Journal of Architectural Engineering, 1996
Historically, masonry buildings have been designed with little or no regard for the effects of seismic loads. Recent earthquakes in California, Japan, and other parts of the world have demonstrated that these older masonry structures are extremely susceptible to the lateral forces imposed during such an event.

Out-of-Plane Reinforcement of Masonry Walls with Steel Reinforced Grout

SP-324: Composites with Inorganic Matrix for Repair of Concrete and Masonry Structures, 2018
A shake table investigation was carried out on a full-scale U-shaped masonry assemblage to study the effectiveness of Steel Reinforced Grout (SRG) for the improvement of the out-of-plane seismic capacity of masonry walls. Natural accelerograms were applied with increasing scale factor up to failure.

Seismic performance of mortarless reinforced masonry walls

Journal of Building Engineering, 2020
Abstract Reinforced masonry walls are commonly used as a primary lateral load resisting system in buildings in regions of moderate or high seismicity. Mortarless reinforced masonry (MLRM) walls are constructed using concrete masonry units placed without mortar and then interconnected by concrete grout.

Flexural and Shear Response of Reinforced Masonry Walls

ACI Structural Journal, 1990
The flexural and shear behavior of reinforced masonry shearwalls subject to both monotonic and cyclic lateral loads is examined. The study is based on the experimental results obtained from more than twenty 6 x 6 ft reinforced masonry wall panels tested under in-plane vertical and lateral loads. For the square wall panels studied, the shear strength is

Experimental Investigation of Masonry and Reinforced Masonry Walls Under Local Loading

2020
In modern construction, the brick is quite widely used as a material for wall structures. The masonry buildings are durable and have beautiful architectural forms and high heat transfer resistance. The practice of masonry buildings construction dates has several thousand years, and some of the architectural monuments have survived to these days.

3D Asymptotic Model For Cfrp Reinforced Masonry Walls

2003
This work proposes a study for CFRP (Carbon Fibre reinforced polymers) symmetric and not symmetric reinforced masonry walls subject to in plane and out of plane actions in the elastic range. Masonry, CFRP reinforcement and reinforced masonry have been identified with a standard elastic continuum by means of a homogenisation method in several ...

DEVELOPMENT OF CONTROLLED ROCKING REINFORCED MASONRY WALLS

2021
The structural damage after the Christchurch earthquake (2011) led to extensively damaged facilities that did not collapse but did require demolition, representing more than 70% of the building stock in the central business district. These severe economic losses that result from conventional seismic design clearly show the importance of moving towards ...

Diagonal Compression of Masonry Walls Strengthened with Composite Reinforced Mortar

Key Engineering Materials, 2019
The use of inorganic matrix composites to strengthen and retrofit existing masonry and concrete structures has been gaining increasing interest in the last years. Among them, composite reinforced mortar (CRM) systems are a promising solution to increase the shear and flexural capacity of masonry panels. CRMs are comprised of a relatively thin inorganic
