Crisis beyond the exceptional: The latent, everyday nature of the crisis perpetual

open access: yesSingapore Journal of Tropical Geography, Volume 47, Issue 2, Page 219-229, May 2026.
We are surrounded by declarations of crises, from climate to housing, debt and beyond. Crisis is everywhere and yet it remains exceptional. A crisis is imagined as a call to action, a repudiation of the old system, promising change if only the moment can be seized.

Mechanisms for Decadal Variability of Ocean Heat Uptake Inferred From Adjoint Sensitivities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract The occurrence of a period of slowdown in surface air temperature increase from 1998 to 2013 despite continued greenhouse gas emissions (the warming hiatus) has suggested that ocean heat uptake (OHU) is susceptible to decadal variability. Here, we identify mechanisms that lead to decadal changes in OHU to revisit the origin of the warming ...

A pilot variational coupled reanalysis based on the CESAM climate model

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Volume 152, Issue 776, April 2026 Part A.
Variational data assimilation of in‐situ and satellite ocean data and reanalysis atmospheric data into an intermediate complexity Earth system model is possible by adjusting the surface fluxes and internal model parameters. This pilot application requires nearly complete information on the atmospheric state for synchronization.

Reinhart Kosellecks Konzept »semantischer Kämpfe« [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021

ABSTRACT This article is a posthumously published text that was written by Alf Lüdtke and Alexandra Oeser but was left unfinished when Lüdtke died in February 2019. ON HISTORICAL (ANTI‐)REALISM

open access: yesHistory and Theory, Volume 65, Issue 1, Page 58-82, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The problem of historical realism has gained some new momentum recently, with a fresh challenge to what is taken to be an anti‐realist hegemony in the theory and philosophy of history. Unfortunately, this has also provided the opportunity for the reheating of old polemics and lazy scholarship that characterized the 1990s reaction to ...

Engineering Cumene Dioxygenase for Regioselective Hydroxylation of Monoterpenes and Monoterpenoids

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 4, 17 February 2026.
Cumene dioxygenase from Pseudomonas fluorescens IP01 was engineered to enable regioselective hydroxylation of monoterpenes and monoterpenoids. Iterative site‐saturation mutagenesis of active‐site residues enabled precise control over regioselectivity while expanding the substrate scope.
