Reissner–Mindlin shell theory based on Tangential Differential Calculus [PDF]
AbstractWe propose a reformulation of the linear Reissner–Mindlin shell theory in terms of tangential differential calculus. An advantage of our approach is that shell analysis on implicitly defined surfaces is enabled and a parametrization of the surface is not required.

Failure Criterion‐Based Bead Optimization of a Wind Turbine Blade Root Section
ABSTRACT This study presents a bead‐based optimization framework for fiber composite wind turbine blades, employing the Tsai–Wu failure criterion as the structural performance measure. The objective is to design an optimal transition geometry between an existing blade and a root section with 20% smaller diameter, while preserving the original material ...

Shear-corrected Reissner-Mindlin plate model [PDF]
Abstract A new shear-corrected Reissner-Mindlin model is presented. The method reduces the modeling error of the classical model without affecting the form of the classical plate equations. Therefore, implementation on an existing software for the Reissner-Mindlin plate model is simple.

An asymptotic strain gradient Reissner-Mindlin plate model [PDF]
In this paper we derive a strain gradient plate model from the three-dimensional equations of strain gradient linearized elasticity. The deduction is based on the asymptotic analysis with respect of a small real parameter being the thickness of the ...

A locking-free Reissner-Mindlin quadrilateral element [PDF]
On arbitrary regular quadrilaterals, a new finite element method for the Reissner-Mindlin plate is proposed, where both transverse displacement and rotation are approximated by isoparametric bilinear elements, with local bubbles enriching rotation, and a local reduction operator is applied to the shear energy term.

Nonlinear shell problem formulation accounting for through-the-thickness stretching and its finite element implementation [PDF]
We discuss a theoretical formulation of shell model accounting for through-the-thickness stretching, which allows for large deformations and direct use of 3d constitutive equations.
