Application of the Method of Initial Functions to Study Dynamics and Stress Distribution in Structural Members

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
This study investigates plate analyses employing the method of initial functions (MIFs) across various plate geometries and loading conditions. The conclusions derived from thick rectangular plates highlight substantial thickness‐induced effects on deflection and stress distributions.

Finite element model based on refined plate theories for laminated glass units

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
Laminated glass units exhibit complex response as a result of different mechanical behavior and properties of glass and polymer foil. We aim to develop a finite element model for elastic laminated glass plates based on the refined plate theory by Mau ...

Locking-free discontinuous finite elements for the upper bound yield design of thick plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceThis work investigates the formulation of finite elements dedicated to the upper bound kinematic approach of yield design or limit analysis of Reissner-Mindlin thick plates in shear-bending interaction.

Simple Polynomial Reissner–Mindlin Shell Model and Its Application in Efficient Analysis of Complex Underground Structures

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The isogeometric (IG) Reissner–Mindlin (R–M) shell model solves the problem of shear and membrane locking that besets the finite element (FE) R–M shell model of nonthick underground structures, but still faces complicated modeling and computation, especially for the multijoint structures.

A simple triangular finite element model for analysing the linear static behaviour of thick sandwich plates with equivalent material properties

open access: yesAdvances in Civil and Architectural Engineering
This study presents a simple triangular finite element model for analysing the linear static behaviour of thick sandwich plates. What sets this work apart is its unique combination of the deformation approach with Airy’s function and analytic integration.

Mother Operators and their Descendants

open access: yes, 2014
A mechanism deriving new well-posed evolutionary equations from given ones is inspected. It turns out that there is one particular spatial operator from which many of the standard evolutionary problems of mathematical physics can be generated by this ...

A parametric study on the buckling of functionally graded material plates with internal discontinuities using the partition of unity method

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, the effect of local defects, viz., cracks and cutouts on the buckling behaviour of functionally graded material plates subjected to mechanical and thermal load is numerically studied.

Existence theorems in the geometrically non-linear 6-parametric theory of elastic plates

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper we show the existence of global minimizers for the geometrically exact, non-linear equations of elastic plates, in the framework of the general 6-parametric shell theory.

GEOMETRIC AND MATERIAL NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS AT FIRE ENVIRONMENT

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2013
In the present study a nonlinear finite element analysis is presented  to predict the fire resistance of reinforced concrete slabs at fire environment.

Discontinuous solutions in BEM for plate analysis in reissner-mindlin theory

open access: yes, 2022
We present a new direction in the indirect Boundary Element Method BEM, based on discontinuous solutions. These solutions were obtained by Prof. Moraru Gheorghe by applying the generalized Fourier transform to the differential equation of plates.
